Krank is a four-piece heavy rock ensemble based in the Charleston / Kanawha Valley, WV region who reformed in the Summer of 2006 afer a hiatus of nearly four years. After a year of dates, the band's former bassist Dave played his farewell show at Sam's Uptown Cafe in November, 2007.Then began what every band hates more than moving equipment, running out of beer, or rain at an outdoor gig... the task of finding a bass player. Krank spent more than 6 months of searching and tried out many fine players before meeting their current bassist, Kevin. After some time rehearsing, Kevin made his debut performance with the band in July, 2008 and has proven to be a great addition. While the band is currently playing primarily cover material from such bands as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Stone Temple Pilots, and Tool, they continue working on original material as well.

The Captain
guitars, vulgar slurs & comments
Interview (excerpt) conducted by Ferrence Zolt as published February, 2009 in "The Music Can":FERRENCE: So...it's been a long time, hasn't it Doug...or should I call you Captain?
CAPTAIN: Well, yes it has... and 'Captain' is fine.
FERRENCE: So how does this band, KRANK, fit in with the bands you were in during the 70's and following decades, Captain?
CAPTAIN: Well, you know, it's really a groovy thing we have going. I guess you could say it's the same rock and roll thing, but nowadays you can draw so much from past material that it makes it more complicated from a guitar standpoint.
FERRENCE: Such as tunings, tones, and the like?
CAPTAIN: Exactly.
FERRENCE: Talk to me about your guitars.
CAPTAIN: Pretty much the same thing I have been using from the get-go...Les Pauls and Strats. I know there are a lot of different good guitars out there nowadays, but I grew up in a period where most of the key players in rock and roll played one or the other, so it was natural for me to play both. I'm comfortable with them and they always feel like 'coming home' to me.
FERRENCE: Amplification?
CAPTAIN: Still Marshalls... I'm glad they still make them loud.
FERRENCE: Where do you see KRANK heading in the next 6 months?
CAPTAIN: Well, we will be delving into our own material and such. Experimenting with sounds......maybe some sea sounds and such...cosmic waves which transcend normal tones and smoothly filter to your ears.
FERRENCE: Er...yes...well......I think I know what you're getting at.
CAPTAIN: Outstanding!
FERRENCE: Captain, it's been a pleasure. I look forward to KRANK releasing their first CD. Take care my friend.
CAPTAIN: Peace, brother.
Tim
drums, percussion, vocals
After making his first drum set at age 5 out of boxes and coffee cans and later destroying cheap department store kits, Tim got a snare drum and began formal lessons at age 12. Two years later, he got his first REAL drum set and joined an R&B/funk band, playing his first gig at a junior high school dance. Throughout his high school and early college years, Tim played in several local bands, including SPEAK OUT LOUD, MELVIN NUEMANN (Does anybody remember "The Melvins"?), and punk rockers LOST CAUSE. He also later teamed up with bass player & former band mate Sooyoung Park, recording with Park’s project, BITCH MAGNET.After college, Tim continued playing and recording with several artists and area groups, most notably hard rockers TANGENT, the country/rock quad LAKESIDE, and a brief stint with 24-7 he formed with former TANGENT & RAINMAKER guitarist, Dave Monk.
In addition to drumming with KRANK, Tim continues a lifelong passion with the piano/keyboards, recently teaming up again with Monk in the group, RIVER. While Tim also enjoys composing music and recording, he believes most musicians will agree there’s no substitute for performing live. “I’m excited to be out playing, especially with such a talented group of musicians. I hope people in the Kanawha Valley and surrounding areas will support our brand of rock n’ roll. Come and get your KRANK on BABY!â€
Tim cites his biggest influences on drums as: John Bonham, Neil Peart, Bill Bruford, Terry Bozzio, and Stewart Copeland.
Tim plays Ludwig drums and Zildjian cymbals with Pro Mark & Vic Firth sticks.
Kevin
Bass/vocals
In 1988-90, Kevin started out as a keyboard player in middle school. His first band was called EXTASY. “We played alot of Bon Jovi, Journey, and hair metal with keyboards. At that time, everyone wanted a keyboard player, so I was always getting calls.†In 1990-93, after EXTASY split when they ran out of hairspray, Kevin joined a band called ROADKILL, playing older tunes like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Seger, and some old country. During the run with this band, the guitar player quit. Kevin picked up the guitar at practice one day, and the band liked what they heard and asked if he wanted to fill the spot. Kevin recalls, “I became the guitar player at that point. I learned a lot about stage performance, lead and backup vocals in this group.â€Through 1993-95, Kevin joined the Navy. “I played very little. I was honored to serve my country, but felt the desire to pick up an instrument and play. Rather than being deployed in the Atlantic, I would have rather been at Woodstock ‘94.†After his two-year enlistment was up, Kevin moved to North Carolina in 1995 and resided there for five years. Realizing that guitar players are a dime by the dozen, he picked up the bass, and joined a rock band called POCKET SIZE GRANDMA, which soon changed their name to GRUDGE. “I went to the recording studio with this band, wrote songs, played out and we gained a pretty big following.â€
The band split in 2000 and Kevin moved to Pennsylvania. Kevin then joined as a guitar player for a metal band called TIME OF NEED. The time with this band didn't last long. He soon longed for the hills of West Virginia. In 2001, Kevin moved to Charleston and “played around a bit with a few bands that didn't amount to anything.†After much searching that led to nowhere, Kevin “hung it up†and stopped searching for bands to join. However, the itch to play became overwhelming in 2008.
He placed an ad on a WV Musicians website looking for a band and soon received a response from the guys of KRANK. The initial practice was set up and the rest is history. “I am very happy to be playing with Krank. These guys were exactly what I was looking for. They just want to play and have some fun. I look forward to some good years with this band.â€
Monty
lead vocals
Monty has been rockin' for over 15 years. He's been very fortunate finding great musicians to jam with. The only thing that takes precedence over music for Monty is his wife Lindsey and his son Killian.Monty is thrilled to be Krankin' again.
