Rock on Nick Spondyl! This bio was written by his friend Enrico and Nick's management team."DIASPORA" is a greek word meaning the settlement of a people far from their homeland. In the first millennium B.C. thousands of Greeks migrated to an area along the Black Sea the they called "pontos", the Greek word for sea. After the conquest of the Ottoman Turks the Pontian Greeks endured second class status for nearly five centuries. Then the situation dramatically became worse in the first part of the 20th century while a population exchange was in effect between Greece and Turkey. In the remote Pontian homeland a genocide had begun. Over 353,000 unspeakable artocities occurred as the Pontian Greeks were put into death and labor camps. As for th survivors...the DIASPORA began. Many traveled north and east to the Orthodox Christian haven of Russia. Many fled west to the Greek motherland and some south to Australia. While some choose a new beginning in America. This is a story I know well -- my parents and grandparents were Pontian immigrants to the United States of America!
