Aesthetic beauty in music is not an absolute concern. It is rather a subjective, conceptual and contextual one much like politics. We can observe that although there are right and left leaning political movements, the further they stray from the center the more they resemble one another. Extreme right leaning Fascist dictatorships seem equally as oppressive as left leaning Communist regimes. Conversely, in the "permissive" west, right wing Libertarians are philosophically indistinguishable from left wing Anarchists. They both advocate unlimited freedom as opposed to their eastern counterparts who favor the absolute submission of personal liberty. This indicates that political philosophy does not exist in a straight line. Rather, it exists in a circle where the more it travels from the center, the more similar it becomes. Could musical aesthetic function in the same manner? Repulsar was formed to test this very theory. Is there a secret trap door on the edge of terrible that when crawled through will lead to the promised land of greatness? Repulsar is committed to explore this notion through cheesy drum machines, bass tones that resemble the sound of farting, loud guitar feedback, semi-competent guitar soloing and atonal Tibetan multi-phonic throat singing techniques set to conceptually suspect themes. Rock and roll wouldn't exist if there weren’t audiences who like loud, slightly annoying sounds. For those out there who are "size queens" for loud annoyance, Repulsar serves a twelve-inch dose of what satisfies you the most right where it hurts the worst. CAUTION: Listen to Repulsar at your own risk. It is meant only for those who have the courage to recognize the GREATNESS in BAD MUSIC. NOTE: This is the blog space for Newt Skink. Michael Donahue's blog exists on the Primadonahue page.
