About Me

“I ran before I walked and sang before I talked.”From Shayna’s “Fall Down”Shayna was born in San Francisco during the heydays of the Bay Area’s music scene. Her parents were at the core, both professionally and personally. Her father a musician and mother the ultimate flower child would often bring her along to the homes, rehearsals and concerts of the movers and shakers of the day: The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Big Brother & The Holding Company… She could often be found napping in the bass drum while her father’s band rehearsed. The San Francisco music scene was welcoming to a joyful little girl who clearly felt at home backstage.Growing up she was always singing. “Got to, got to, na na na” were the first words she spoke, or rather sang. “Music has been my safe place,” Shayna explains. She followed her musical path to Los Angeles where the singer/songwriter developed her own musical style. She started her first band, Peace Box, whose performances made a stir on the L.A. scene. Later she stepped out on her own for a solo project continuing to write and play the LA circuit where she met up with engineer/producer Russel Pope, the behind-the-scenes 6th member of the band Supertramp. Together they produced her self-titled debut CD which was lauded by fans and industry alike.“[Shayna is] a powerful blow for the highly competitive independent record market.” Albert Torres of “House of Blues.com“Shayna” is “a weaving of Shayna’s lifelong journey, with her reflections on life’s dichotomies.” And the world has taken notice. Shayna has been featured on MTV, “Inside Edition” and Los Angeles’ KLOS-FM. Her music can be found on such well-known network and syndicated shows as NBC’s “Passions”, the CW’s “Girlfriends” and “Disney’s “Z-Games”. She is also a featured artist on the soundtrack for “The Thin Pink Line”, an independent film starring Jennifer Aniston and Mike Myers.”No Cover Magazine says, “Shayna’s voice [is] diamond clear, honest, even precious.” There’s a force to it that lets you know she feels every little detail she’s describing.”Bernard Baur of Music Connection raves, “Barefoot and happy to be alive… She obviously loves what she’s doing and it’s more than infectious, as it [fills] the room with her spirit.Shayna has headlined and shared the stage with such names as Seal, Michael McDonald, and The Tubes to name a few. She has played universities, festivals, wineries and respected nightclubs including: The Roxy, The Troubadour and Mill Valley’s legendary Sweet Water among others.“Alternative Folk/Pop" is the best genre description that Shayna can offer of her music. Currently Shayna is in the studio putting the finishing touches on her second CD titled “BEatiful Mess”, to be released 2010. “There has definitely been an evolution from the first album,” Shayna says. “A lot of what went down on this record was created in the moment… in the now. There aren’t a lot of overdubs. I wanted it to be raw and real.Shayna’s spirit and music are about sharing life experiences in a free, introspective, curious and joyful way. Her songs are thoughtful and thought provoking. “There is something reassuring about hearing a song that relates to your life and your feelings that gives you a sense of belonging.” Her strong, compelling, rich vocals and lyrics do just that. Through her music, audiences find it easy to let go and laugh a bit at life. But that’s just icing on the cake for this women who was born to sing. “You get the definite impression that, no matter what, she would be playing somewhere somehow for someone sometime, because it’s her life. And when anyone is that genuine, you’re going to experience [something] great.”From her heart to your ears, she comes to you… Pure Shayna
