About Me

Mary Carewe's versatility ranges from musical theatre showstoppers and cabaret songs to the avant-garde - repertoire she masters with musicality, personality and panache. Whether she sings James Bond movie themes, Broadway songs, Serious Cabaret or Contemporary Music, she embraces each genre to make the style her own.She has worked with conductors such as Carl Davis, Kurt Masur, Sir Simon Rattle and John Rutter and regularly appears as a soloist with major international orchestras. Mary has made a wide variety of recordings including a collection of Cabaret songs for ASV, Musical Theatre classics on Warners and, for EMI, Thomas Adès’ Life Story with the composer. Her most recent release is 'The Best of Bond' with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Carl Davis.Along with Miriam Stockley Mary sang all the 'ethnic choruses' on the early ADIEMUS Projects for Karl Jenkins (Songs of Sanctuary and Canta Mundi)Mary works extensively as a session singer for film, TV and recordings. My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.marycarewe.com
Band Members: Her amazing pianist and arranger Philip Mayers is involved in all her Serious Cabaret projects and with her sister - Cellist Anna Carewe - they have a trio called Panama Hat-trick.
Influences: Hugely influenced by the great female voices of 40s and 50s - Judy Garland, Doris Day, Dinah shore, Dolores Grey...but grew up singing along to ABBA and old Beatles records as well as going to numerous classical music and contemporary music concerts to watch her father John Carewe conduct. Current favourites are Imogen Heap and Rufus Wainwright.
Sounds Like: Mary Carewe!! But you can catch traces of those early influences... In her session work she often has to mimic the likes of Liza Minelli and Shirley Bassey and more contemporary pop artists such as Alanis Morissette, Kylie and Sheryl Crow.
