New Zealand born British soprano, Tanya Cooling holds a Master of Music and a Master of Music Performance (Guildhall Artist) both with distinction from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and is the first singer to have become a Guildhall Artist Fellow.
Tanya was a 2007 Young Songmaker and has performed as a recitalist St John’s Smith Square, the Barbican Centre with the London Symphony Orchestra, Cadogan Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Palau de la Musica, Valencia, where she also lectured on Art Song Performance to Masters and PhD students of the Universidad Politecnica di Valencia, the City of London Festival, the Elizabeth Maconchy Centenary Festival and The Oxford Lieder Festival. Most recently she has given a recital at St Martin-In-the-Fields and performed for Susan Youens in a Masterclass at King’s Place.
Her operatic work in Europe has included a recent debut in the role of Violetta in La Traviata (Riverside Opera), Adele in Die Fledermaus (Riverside Opera), Adina (cover) in L’Elisir d’amore and The Controller (cover) in Jonathan Dove’s Flight (British Youth Opera), contemporary operas in The Grimeborn Festival 2007 and 2008 and Olympia in Erwin und Elmire in Weimar with Lieder Theatre Opera which included a feature DVD production. Tanya made her film debut and recorded arias for the BBC production of The Duchess. Tanya recently performed arias in Masterclass with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and has since received private coaching.
She was a finalist in 2007 for the Patricia Routledge National English Song Competition and winner of the New Zealand 2007 AIMES Award for Music. She has been kindly supported by the Elizabeth Sweeting Award, The Worshipful Company of Vintners and the Worshipful Company of Brewers and the Kathleen Trust.
