Early Life
Efron was born in San Luis Obispo, California, and later moved to Arroyo Grande. His father, David Efron, is an engineer at a power plant, and his mother, Starla Baskett, is a former secretary who worked at the same power plant as Efron's father. Although of Jewish ancestry, Efron was raised in an agnostic household. Efron had a self-described "normal childhood" in a middle class family, and has a younger brother, Dylan. He has said that he would "flip out" if he got a 'B' and not an 'A' in school, and that he was a "class clown." Efron's father encouraged him to begin acting when Efron was eleven. He subsequently appeared in theater productions at his high school, worked in a theater called the Melodrama, and began taking singing lessons. Efron performed in plays such as Gypsy, Peter Pan, Little Shop of Horrors, The Music Man and Mame, appearing at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts. Efron was recommended to an agent in Los Angeles by his drama teacher, Robyn Metchik (the mother of actors Aaron Michael Metchik and Asher Metchik).
Personal Life
Efron has two dogs, Australian shepherds named Dreamer and Puppy, along with a Siamese cat named Simon. He is currently dating his High School Musical and High School Musical 2 co-star Vanessa Hudgens.
Zac has been accepted to the University of Southern California. He has deferred his enrollment while he works on film projects, but plans to return at some time.

Hairspray
Hairspray is a 2007 musical film produced by Zadan/Meron Productions and distributed by New Line Cinema. It was released in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom on July 20, 2007. The film is an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning 2002 Broadway musical of the same name, itself adapted from John Waters' 1988 comedy film. Set in 1962 Baltimore, the film follows a "pleasantly-plump" teen named Tracy Turnblad as she simultaneously pursues stardom as a dancer on a local TV show and rallies against racial segregation. Adapted from both Waters' 1988 script and Thomas Meehan and Mark O'Donnell's book for the stage musical by screenwriter Leslie Dixon, the 2007 version of Hairspray is directed and choreographed by Adam Shankman. Hairspray stars John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, James Marsden, Queen Latifah, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron, Elijah Kelley, Allison Janney, and introduces newcomer Nikki Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad. Hairspray features songs from the Broadway musical written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, as well as a handful of Shaiman/Wittman compositions not present in the Broadway version.
the derby stallion
The Derby Stallion is a 2005 film about 15-year-old Patrick McCardle (Zac Efron) who doesn't know what to do with his life and the pressure from his dad is not helping. But soon falls in love with horseback riding. He wants to win the Steeples Derby on his horse Rusty. He thinks he can win it with his new friend Jill Overton (Crystal Hunt) and his trainer Houston Jones (Bill Cobbs), He thinks he can beat his riding enemy Randy Adams (Michael Nardelli), but then disaster strikes... The disaster is simple: instead of simply conforming as his father wishes and falling in love with a female, Patrick (aka the flamboyant Z Efron), he has passionate and truly worrying feelings towards his first true love: the horse.
High school musical
High School Musical is an American telefilm. Released on January 20, 2006, it was one of the most successful Disney Channel Original Movies (DCOM) produced, with a television sequel released August 17, 2007 and a feature film sequel in the planning process. The film's soundtrack was the best-selling album of 2006. The film was shot almost entirely in the Wasatch Front in Utah (namely Salt Lake City and Murray). With a plot described as a modern retelling of Romeo & Juliet, High School Musical is a story of two high school juniors from rival cliques: Troy Bolton (Zac Efron), captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens), a shy transfer student who excels in math and science. Together, they try out for the lead parts in their high school musical, and as a result, divide the school. Despite other students' attempts to thwart their dreams, Troy and Gabriella resist peer pressure and rivalry, inspiring others along the way not to "stick with the status quo." This was Disney Channel's most successful movie at its time with 7.7 million viewers in its premiere broadcast in the US. In the UK, it received 789,000 viewers for its premiere (and 1.2 million viewers overall during the first week), making the film the most watched program for the Disney Channel (UK) of 2006. It was also the first ever Disney Channel Original Movie to be broadcast on the BBC. On August 16, 2007 ratings went slightly up to 6.0 million viewers.
Zanessa still together
As we told ya, Zanessa never broke up. We're not sure why other mags want them apart so badly, but...pictures don't lie. If you just broke up, you don't go shopping alone together (actually, they brought V's adorable sis Stella!) They cruised around L.A. together this week, and the only thing they weren't shopping for were new people to date. They're happy...TOGETHER!
