I believe that just being a woman and a free woman at that is a celebration in itself.Mad Dame was the first born to a single mother of three who instilled values and independence in her children by any means necessary. My mother always tell me, ‘what a man can do for you, you can do for your damn self. Hearing her say that over and over again had really registered and it as served as a guideline to how I live my life today.While growing up in the streets of West side Scarborough in a Toronto housing project, Dame was the only girl hanging with the guys that ruled Cataraqui a.k.a ‘Block 13’ and she was met with the highest amount of respect and trust. ‘The cats that I hung with really took me on, showed me the ropes, how to hustle and survive the rough streetsAt the tender age of 15, her first boyfriend was heavily into the Hip Hop culture. He began to educate her on beats, old samples and writing bars. Now seeing music in a whole different light, Mad Dame became more intrigued. While taking part in the odd freestyle competition throughout her teenage years, and receiving mad props from her peers in the streets. She however did not take it seriously.It wasn’t until the summer of 2004 when a childhood friend began making a CD, which featured all the talents on the block, entitled ‘Block 13’. Thus Mad Dame was born. Unfortunately due to hood politics the CD release was not successful. That however only fueled the Dame’s motivation. To rep Canada on the level of a female, born and raised on the fierce streets of T-Dot.N.O.G: No ordinary girl, Mad Dame’s lyrics are grimy, real and come from the obstacles and the harsh realities from a non-average females’ perspective. She is the girl who is waiting to show the world Toronto, Canada through her eyes.
