About Me

Turn up the volume and get ready for a sizzlin' listening experience! Kevin Cook is a long, lean song writing machine, you see words like mesmerizing and authentic pop up in his reviews. Kevin plays guitar in a range of tunings and uses edgy first-rate fingerpickin' to deliver his songs with a lot of soul and conviction. And he admits to having an attraction to writers on the fringe like Kerouac or Charles Bukowski. Reviewers unanimously agree that "Cook's obvious ace is his lyrics." In one of his new songs, he invents a casanova named Tall Gordon who has an unfortunate run-in with a jealous husband. This tall tale is told by a dusty, old town carpenter as he works pounding nails into a pine box and Kevin jokes " It's a serious business, exploring the darker side of cowboy life." But this is no cry in your beer music. Flavours of old blues, traditional bluegrass and country resonate from the stage. This music is true acoustic artistry. Prepare to be dazzled as Cam Neufeld plays harmonica, mandolin and appalachian fiddle like a house on fire. He's an unusual character with a passion for performing. In the upbeat tune CALAHOO, you'll hear a hynotic groove colored by Neufeld's heartfelt harmonica playing. CALAHOO is the name of Kevin Cook's fifth recording and the name of the small town where he lives in rural Alberta. Cora-Mae is a catchy little number from his last record WESTERN UNION. The melody gets under your skin and the lyrics surprisingly refer to folk legend Woody Guthrie. Then the boys go on to breathe new life into the well-known Joplin song Mercedes Benz and Kevin recorded it in his livingroom, live off the floor. The new CD CALAHOO was recorded at Baker's Studio on the Canadian west coast (The Bills, Outlaw Social and the Cowboy Junkies). Be sure to stay tuned! Free MySpace Layouts by Iron Spider
