About Me

Chicago-born and bread, Danny Jay has been inspired by music his whole life. Starting out as a guitarist for the band Noise Pollution in 1996, he played back-yard shows and local block parties. The band even recorded a short demo. Years later in high school, Jay lead his new band King Friday to early success, playing coffee shops and even headlining their own festival in Evanston, IL. Later he began his rap career with fellow rapper Panthrow Nobody. The two formed their group Cancerous Cells, which was partially a novelty group but began catching on. Three of their songs even appeared on Napster in 2000, before the site was shut down. This further inspired Danny to start his producing career, instead of purely just rapping. His knack for making beats and writing was still present. Danny then went solo as rapper and producer, Island. As Island, he recorded his first full-length album and sold mass quantities at his high school. (Evanston Township) This promoted his rapping and producing as he went into college at Northern Illinois University, making two more albums before meeting rapper Eric Jay. Eric had been doing exactly what Danny was doing and the two met through Top 40 station, B96 in Chicago. Music Director Erik Bradley was guiding both boys at the time and connected them. Ever since that moment, the duo began making music together with Eric as the rapper and Danny producing the hits. Their music hit the Chicago club scene hard. It was then they met singer Jaylynn B. The three of them created their smash club hit, "It ain't Over" ft. SoundMaster T. ("Dance, too much booty in the pants") Immediately it became a club sensation. DJ's from Lee Michaels to Giotek and even B96's own Roxanne featured the new-found group on her web page in late 2007. Feeling that Danny and Eric had accomplished what they needed to in the midwest, they both undertook a massive move to Los Angeles to pursue music in Hollywood. After moving, they met manager Bonnie Gallanter of Muse Artist Management and signed a 3-year deal. (Muse signed Jessie McCartney) Soon after, the duo found a new singer in Tarah New, from Texas. Tired of straight rapping, Danny picked up his old guitar and they formed a new genre of music! They called it "acoustic hip-hop." Their new group name became Shytown, after their hometown of Chicago. The performed in Santa Monica by the famous pier, getting the attention of tourists and locals alike. The buzz around Shytown had begun. While playing on the pier, they made fans and were able to start doing shows around Hollywood. Shytown performed at the Mint club, Aura and soon the Key Club, catching the interest of record labels. Danny and Shytown plan on continuing to do shows and will drop their debut album TBA.
