Mischief & Frankie are a charismatic and stylish DJ duo with a flair for delivering funky and jackin', Chicago-style house. At home in Toronto, they are better known as cousins Brian Umali and Franklin Medina. Together they share a common passion for friendships, dancing, DJing and house music.
Franklin began his Djing career in the early 90’s. He would begin journey by spinning at various venues and school events. A combination of Hip Hop and Classic House was his sound. But his DJing career took a turn. After venturing into the salsa dancing scene for 5 years, he was given a Houose CD to listen to. That CD was Mark Farina's San Francisco Sessions. And this was Franklin's rebirth to house music and eventually his rebirth into the underground house scene as one of Toronto's best house DJs.
Brian, a curious jester, is always on the prowl for anything mischievous. Schooled in Hip Hop and influenced by DJ Premier, he began DJing in 1996 as a turntablist. He would later discover his passion for house music and in early 2004 he entered the Heineken Thirst DJ competition and placed 2nd in Canada.
Circle Intelligence was created in 2000 but the duo Mischief & Frankie was born in 2003. Together they would share their passion and perfect their craft to deliver the best in funky house music. When asked to describe the sound they produce, the duo explains; “Our style is very unique in sense that it’s house music that’s bumpy, jackin’, deep, techy, jazzy and even a bit minimal. We have a Chicago sound that has all the different house music elements that everyone loves to hear, incorporated into one sound.â€
Mischief and Frankie have been DJing all over the greater Toronto area, they have earned opportunities to step-up and play alongside international acclaimed stars like DJ Heather, Colette, DJ Sneak, Derrick Carter, Mark Farina, JT Donaldson, Justin Long, Dayhota, Phil Weeks, Amir Javasoul, Fred Everything, Joey Youngman, Jacob London and locals Jason Hodges and Gryphon.
House music aficionados are taking notice as Mischief & Frankie secure their place in Toronto's underground scene with each solid performance. In demand and building their profile, Mischief & Frankie is a name that is growing quickly as they leave a mark on the scene.
