Babies With Rabies

About Me

Babies with Rabies were spawned in Vancouver, BC, in 2003. A three-piece with members from Halifax, Nova Scotia and Salt Spring Island, they represent a coast-to-coast contagion of new Canadian rock music.Combining elements and influences from old school and pre-punk, 80’s hardcore, metal and rawk, they have created a contemporary rock sound with a heavy nod to the past, minus the nostalgia.Eschewing Gen X irony for raw power, Babies with Rabies prefer to rock out, without quotation marks around their experience, choosing honesty of feeling over tempered emotional cool, while also allowing humour to inform their music (and still let comedians do the stand-up).Musically and conceptually, Babies with Rabies approach the bar chord like a brand new toy, and work within the corseted confines of punk’s minimalism as a foundation much like blues musicians who seek to expand that simple and limited form with inspiration and innovation.

In total they released 2 full length albums; a seven-inch featuring covers by Leonard Cohen and the Velvet Underground, and contributed songs to the early Halifax scene compilation Out of the Fog, the Bruce Cockburn tribute Kicking Against the Darkness, as well as a song to the Canadian film soundtrack Highway 61. Jellyfishbabies were referred to in the book Have Not Been the Same: The CanRock Renaissance as being a seminal influence on the quote unqoute Halifax sound.
