Andy Leighton was born in Perth (Scotland), then moved to northern England and back again to Dumfries in southern Scotland, where he attended Wallace Hall Academy before finally moving to Dublin in '97 to complete a HND in traditional music and performance ran by ballyfermot senior college.
He first started learning the fiddle age 11 in school under the tuition of Bill McNabb, and gradually became more and more interested in irish music through trips to ireland with his parents, to sumer schools such as 'willie week' in co clare and scoil acla on Achil island.
After leaving college Andy and some of his fellow students formed the band 'Shinook' (Andy, TonyByrne, Alan Docherty, Bryan Palmer,Des Caffeky and Tony Quinn). Shinook played many gigs around Ireland and Europe including residencys in Chief O'Neil's and The Viking Centre in dublin.
Around 2001 he left to play for the show Rythm of the Dance, a dance troop touring extensively throughout Europe and for most of this time was acting as the solo musician. After ten months andy returned ..... Drained !
Upon his return to Dublin Andy spent a short time working as a Tree Surgeon, untill the death of his best friend and nine stitches in his face.... (ouch!).... persuaded him to stop and return to what he loved, Music.
Since then Andy has been working as a session musician around Ireland ad as a part of the Dublin based band 'Trostan'. He has also been experimenting playing house music in clubs with Discoteca Sound System (Kieth O'Rielly- DJ and Giovanni Viscardi-Precussion) in The Village and The Bloody Chamber Orchestra in The Spiegel Tent (Dublin Fringe Festival).
Andy is now working on music for his first Album, that will hopefully be availiable by the end of 2007.
