About Me

How did it all begin?
1989. Dance music was all the rage (or rave even) and the 17 year old Jason Vine could be found regularly swinging his pants to the sounds of A Guy Called Gerald, Detroit Techno, Chicago House, S-Express, Tyree Cooper's 'Turn up the Bass' and Frankie Knuckles at the local nightclubs.
Fast forward 12 years, and my 29 year old self stumbles across a copy of S-Express's 'Original Soundtrack' at Beano's record shop in Croydon. "I loved that album", I remembered, "Superfly Guy was such a great track". Handing over the princely sum of 99p, I hurry home to relive my youth...
Two hours later, and doubts begin to surface. "I'm sure it was faster than that, it's not got the funky beat I remember and what's happened to the bassline?". Of course, it hadn't changed at all, but my rose tinted memory had deceived me.
But all was not lost. Thanks to the discovery of a (then) little known piece of software, co-incidentally called 'Acid', the first ScarKord remix was born and Superfly Guy was rebuilt, Six Million dollar man style and I could pretend to be 17 all over again - we have the technology ;)
Then what happened?
The intervening years saw the hard-drive fill up with more and more remixes and ideas until in May 2004, the ScarKord remix of Donkey Tugger's 'Losing' was released on the soundtrack to Burnt Sienna.
Next came my first non-remix release in the form of 'Cosmonaut' which was released on the Annexia Compilation in Autumn 2005. You could even buy a copy from Beano's!
Since then, there have been remixes released for Jesus Jones, Mary Pastorius and Vincent Bernay. Check out the showcase on remix.scarkord.com to hear more.
So what's next?
Well, I've starting collaborating with Clear Air Turbulence again, adding some keyboard parts to one of their new tracks and I've been asked to write a ScarKord track for a forthcoming Synthvox compilation. I'm also 'very' close to finishing an album's worth of techno tracks, but with a ScarKord twist - watch this (my)space or sign-up for my newsletter to be informed when the new tracks are available.
In the meantime, I'm always up for doing a remix or two so if you have a song you'd like to be given the ScarKord treatment, get in touch!

Might like you better (ScarKord's Serious Mix)
