Scarecrow

About Me

Scarecrow formed in late ’06, when two San Francisco underground metal vets came together to capture the raw, unpretentious vibe of classic bay area metal. Guitarist / Vocalist Matt Harvey (Exhumed, Dekapitator, Repulsion, Noothgrush, etc.) and drummer Will Carroll (Old Granddad, Vicious Rumors, Cut-Throats 9, etc.) got together to bash out a couple of tunes that proved to be the catalyst for what would become Scarecrow. After establishing the proper vibe and feeling confident something was happening in the rehearsal room, bassist Damien Sisson (Points North, Arc) was recruited to fill out the necessarily thundering bottom end. Once guitarist Bud Burke (Exhumed, Dying In Your Beauty Sleep) was in the fold by early ’07, the band was ready to record and play live.
The band spent the year gigging ferociously around the Bay Area, as well as embarking on a western US tour with Metal Blade recording artists Fueled By Fire, rightfully earning a reputation as a rising force to be reckoned with. The first Scarecrow recording session is due out in February ‘08, released as a split CD and 12” (with AZ deathcore act Landmine Marathon). The three tracks on the split highlight the band’s heavier-than-thou riffing, old-school songwriting and sensibilities, and stellar musicianship, courtesy of the sledgehammer rhythm section and Burke’s face-peeling fretwork. The band is currently seeking the right label for their first album, much of which is already written and a staple of the band’s live set.
