About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4 Julio Bagué, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, began his musical career early. At the age of seven he was perfecting his playing skills with the violin and making his first attempts at composing. He later sought tutelage under the expertise of maestro Carlos Varela, the renowned arranger/orchestrator whose work ranged from Louie Armstrong and Count Basie to Arturo Toscanini. It was during this time that Bagué polished his composing and arranging skills, as well as, his piano performance. After graduating with a masters degree from the University of Miami School of Music, Bagué has composed and arranged for various Latin pop artists including Menudo and Alejandro Jaen; the pioneering flamenco artist, Peret; jazz vocalist Laura Bradley; and Sony Tropical artist, Ommar Hernandez.Bagué began to find what would become his signature sound with the ballet entitled, “Divinities”. A work based on the Afro-Cuban “Orishas”, this ballet was performed at the Coconut Grove Playhouse in Miami to rave reviews. Following the success of Divinities, Bagué introduced the world to his unique sound by combining Afro-Caribbean instruments with synthesizers in a classical compositional style strongly influenced by the diverse cultures of the Caribbean, Europe, and Latin America with the release of his debut album entitled “Origin”, in 1999. The song entitled “Origin” was used to promote the summer eclipse by Radio France International in 1999.Bagué returned with a new production entitled “Caribbean Dream”, co-produced by the great percussionist Rafael Solano. This concept album, based on the research of one of Puerto Rico's pre-eminent anthropologists: Osvaldo Garcia-Goyco, takes the listener on a spiritual journey through the myths of the Taino tribe, inhabitants of the Caribbean at the time of Columbus. Evolving into a groove-oriented sound, he explores his roots with emotional depth by combining electronic and organic tones, creating a new genre that has been coined Latin New Age.Recently, Bagué arranged and co-produced with Ramon Arias, the Latin Grammy nominated debut album for Sony Music recording artists, Bacha, as well as the latest release by Mexican Jazz vocalist Elizabeth Meza and the musical reunion of Tropical music sensation Carolina La O Y Los Gemelos. He is currently working on the next "Bagué" album joining forces again with Jose Antonio Oliva and Rafael Solano on a full length project based on the beautiful botanical garden in Caguas, Puerto Rico.
