About Me

'A Story Of Cradley Heath' began as an idea from filmmaker Warren Smith. In February 2006 Warren began to film the town concentrating on the changing landscape including old shops, housing, historical buildings, community buildings, pubs and greenland all being destroyed to make way for a new by-pass road and a giant Tesco Supermarket. Warren needed help so he contacted filmmaker and friend Harry Bloomer. Together and with the inspiration from the film works of Philip Donnellan they began the ambitious task of video documenting the lives and thoughts of the Cradley Heath people. Hundreds of residents took part in the film including Beatrice Richards, born in 1898, who sadly passed away during the latter stages of production. It's the immortalisation of such people that make the film very special, they and their opinions on life and change in the town will live on through generation after generation. The old buildings that have been destroyed such as the pubs, church and old cinema are also immortalised. Everything has to progress but in that progression much is lost.
