Hey musicians of Oakland.Stephen Duffy of That Man Fantastic here... I've been chatting to other oakland bands about this and they all say yeah.. do it! so here it is...The Oakland Music Collective.. just an idea right now.. but let's make it happen.. sign up to the www.myspace.com/theoaklandmusiccollective and let's start something..Oakland is my adopted home having lived here for more years now than I lived in England. In recent years I have become increasingly aware of just how much talent this city harbors and how little of it gets out into the world at large. So many artists, musicians, writers, actors in such a small city.. I figured that we need to do something about that and celebrate what we have. So after talking to other musicians I thought it'd be a good start to have an online place that would bring us all together and perhaps with any luck we can morph it into something bigger.. maybe we could do shows as a group.. invite speakers... promote ourselves as part of a larger happening, stage multi media events and more importantly we can get out and support each other and the good people who are crazy enough to run a club in this city! It's just a seed that i wanted to throw out there and see if it would germinate.. I don't know about you but I for one am sick of the inter band sniping and petty jealousies and all the negative competetive shit that seems so prevalent in the majority of music scenes.. we gotta get past it.. it's tough enough as it is being a musician round here without people going behind your back and stabbing you.. we're in this together right? good... let's talk..
