THE YARROW PROJECT - A HISTORICAL PROPOSAL FOR THE RMS QUEEN MARY - PART 2
The RMS Queen Mary's Very First Voyage From Clydebank, Scotland March 24th, 1936
Well we did touch this topic a bit in describing me, but my main interests are in the history of luxury travel of the 20th century as well as currently today. From the railroad passenger trains of North America of the early-mid 20th century such as the Super Chief, the Daylights, the California Zephyr, the Broadway Limited, the 20th Century Limited, the City of New Orleans, the Empire Builder, the North Coast Limited... etc... to today with the current operations of Amtrak, our nationwide long distance passenger train service which still operates some of the named trains I just previously mentioned. Since I was 14, I have been involved with mechanical maintenance, restoration, renovation and upkeep and upgrading vintage railroad passenger cars which once served the trains of yesteryear. Today, over 200 of these cars are now privately owned and operate for special charters, groups and private trips usually towed behind Amtrak.
My love also is shared with the sea... and the hundreds of monster passenger ships which graced our oceans both past and present. Ships such as Titanic, Lusitania, Bremen, Normandie, Queen Mary, France, Canberra... most have been lost or sank over the years. Today, with an ever growing cruising market, we once again have spectacular vessels gracing the oceans sailing passengers anywhere in the world. Today, the world is seeing ships that are constantly breaking records... for example the new RMS Queen Mary 2 is now the longest, largest, tallest, widest and MOST EXPENSIVE passenger ship ever built... She is FOUR TIMES the size of the imfamous RMS Titanic of 1912 and about twice the size of her older sister, the RMS Queen Mary of 1936, which today permanently resides in Long Beach, CA. On February 23, 2006 the Queen Mary 2 made her maiden call to Los Angeles, with a side-trip to Long Beach harbor to have a "Royal Rendezvous" with the original Queen Mary. It was a grand 90 minute celebration of the meeting of the two Queens! But even as Queen Mary 2 is in her infancy of her sailing career, she is soon to lose her official title of "Largest Passenger Ship"... in late May, 2006 the new cruise ship FREEDOM OF THE SEAS of the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line will be christened into service, snatching the title away from the Queen Mary 2 by about 14,000 gross tons.
I might be 34, but I tend to have a very youthful social life at times. I love meeting anyone (as long as they're not psycho! haha) and Im very open to making new friendships if they wish to do the same. The MOST IMPORTANT thing I would say is that the type of people I like to meet are those who are genuinely kind, caring, responsible, respectful people! If you fit those descriptions, then you're on the right track! :)

I have a very widely open appreciation for music... from classical to techno... from big band Jazz to new age... pop... dance... I have certain moods to listen to certain types of music. I guess I can honestly say that my only considerations are country and rap... not much into either. Since 1998, I have had a deep love for music of the rave scene... trance, house, jungle, breaks, etc.. I was very much into the rave scene from 1999 to 2004, but have taken somewhat of a retirement you could say! :-P Im not much of a dancer, but I am the type of guy who not only enjoys socializing at parties, but I also enjoy absorbing the music, listening to it intensely and letting it affect me emotionally and sometimes physically... sometimes you will see me dance, but thats rare! hehe You may still occasionally see me at a party locally... I may have taken myself out of the scene for the most part, but I will never be able to take the scene out of me! :-D

I owe it to my mom for the immense appreciation for the films of the past... and of the present. She is a huge movie fanatic and loves having her sister and friends come visit for a "movie night" and I guess a little bit of her rubbed off on me. It is often hard for me to say I have any one FAVORITE movie, because there are so many different types of movies and generations they were created in. If you asked me to specify... like say, "Tell me what is your favorite WWII movie ever?" Id say Tora, Tora, Tora. If you asked, "Tell me what is your favorite romantic movie of the 1950s?" I would say An Affair to Remember. We could play this question/answer game for days, but I dont think we have the time nor the webspace! :D
Television is a form of entertainment, but since I often spend my leisure time at home watching it, I tend to try and enhance my knowledge by watching programming that is educational... Discovery Channel (all of them), Military Channel, History Channel, National Geographic Channel, etc... most of the time these are the channels I watch.
I'm also a TV Land fan... I love seeing tv shows of the 50s, 60s, 70s (i can remember these as a kid seeing them in re-runs usually), and 80's (I grew up around these mostly!). From I Love Lucy to the Brady Bunch, from I Dream of Jeanie to Macguyver or Quantum Leap!
Today? There are some favorites... Family Guy, The Simpsons, South Park, and a few others... but... there are three shows that are of utmost priority and interest to me...
LOST, 24 and American Idol!
LOST is now in its third season and is probably the only tv show that has ever left me physically and mentally drained after each episode! Dont get me wrong, this isn't a bad thing... the show is so complex and exciting and mind-boggling that it really can be a sensory overload sometimes.
I have been a fan of American Idol since the middle of the first season. Now we are in Season Six... you will still find me glued to the TV on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and sometimes Thursdays for results shows.
24 is the best action/drama series in the history of television in my opinion. It not only is well written every season with subtle reflections of our nation's current fight in the War on Terrorism, but the show itself inspires patriotism and inspiration of hope in our Country.
Here's where I might lack some cultural class... I am not a book reader... never have. Even as a kid, the only way I had the patience to be entertained by books is if they had a great deal of illustrations or photos. This would mainly be like historical reference books about my favorite topics such as ships or trains. Novels and storybooks have always been a bore... I can have great intentions of starting into reading one, but I soon lose interest before i often get to chapter two.
