Visit Our Website at www.kaubanmovement.webs.com and let's have funKAUBAN Movement Kauban (Kinaiyahan Amomahon Ubanan ug Bantayan) Movement• Kauban is a loose coalition of concerned community and school based mountaineers and environmentalist. • Relationship among fellow mountaineers and youth in general, are bounded by a common cause which is to protect, respect and care for our mother earth. • Kauban was organized to change the face of mountaineering practices here in Davao city. • We also aim to develop concerned individuals and mountaineering groups who will embody the ideals and common interest of conserving and protecting the environment. • The organization was created in November 2001 and kicked off in June of 2002 with a “tent city” put-up in front of the sanguniang panlungsod of Davao city. Although it was just an overnight activity, the presence of the group agitated the city officials, with demands to declare moratorium on banana and pineapple expansion; strictly regulate the use of hazardous pesticides and other toxic synthetic chemicals use by the plantations; stop aerial spraying; and other kinds of practices and developments that threaten the environment and health of the people.OUR OBJECTIVES:General Objective:KAUBAN works as a steward of Mother Nature as “MOTHER NATURE ARMY”. We aim to protect, respect and care for mother earth, our only home.Specific Objectives:• To be at the forefront of raising the level of awareness of people, especially the youth, about natural environment issues; • To initiate moves for the protection and conservation of the environment which are ultimately geared towards ensuring a safe and healthy environment that is consciously protected and enjoyed by its empowered people; and • To act as bridge of solidarity and unity among professional mountaineering communities to care and respect the environment. Our Principles:• To protect and preserve our planet especially our natural resources for the betterment of our future generations, fully believing that whatever we do to our environment, there will always consequences along with as one of the laws of nature says: “Everything is related to everything else”. Our Advocacy:• Protection of our water resources especially our upland watersheds; • Education dissemination for the protection and preservation of mother earth; • Understand, appreciate, and respect the diversity of the Philippine culture especially that of the lumad ( indigenous peoples ) in the uplands; • Encouraging the lumad (indigenous people) youth to study at school; teaching them about the importance of education. • Promoting to the people especially the youth, about the significance and importance of the future source of drinking water of Davao City, the Panigan-Tamugan River located in Brgy.Tawan-Tawan, Baguio Dist., Davao City.Kauban Activities• Tent Pitching at Centennial Park,Davao City • 1st,2nd 3rd, Solidarity Seminar-Workshop • River Trekking at Panigan-Tamugan River for the International Day of Action for Rivers. • World Water Day celebration in Mt.
