I am here for Friends

About Me

Hullo. My name is Vann. I'm pretty easy to get along with. As one friend summed up my personality, "Vann's a really peaceful guy. He'd be happy living out in the woods with the trees." My dream is to one day travel the world and really see what the world has to offer.
I'm always either listening to music or trying to learn something new, because as G.I. Joe says, knowledge is power. It's weird; at the same time, ignorance is bliss. Go figure.
I enjoy the simple random pleasures of life like driving around solving groovy mysteries, strategically biting my food into the shapes of various geographical locations (Ethiopia's my favorite!), and going to your favorite local gas stations and bar bathrooms and poking the condoms with push pins. Things like that amuse me.
On the flipside, I hate lima beans, Family Circus, being sticky, Shia LaBeouf, Texans, and myspace, though I am oddly compelled to use it for some reason.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Well, I don't like bossy, preachy, ignorant or intolerant schmendricks. I would be remiss if I were to lower myself to associate with that level of douchebaggery.
I like laid-back, intelligent, honest, and optimistic people. It also helps if you genuninely care about people, which I find is truly an all too rare quality to find in people. It also doesn't hurt if you have a good sense of humor and are able to converse about unimportant and partially asinine subjects from time to time. And I'm always up for a more cultured conversation on the subject of current events, movies, music, religion, politics, science or what have you. So if you ever want to chat or chill, just give me a holla.

My Three Epiphanies

During the course of last night, I had three epiphanies. Each was more astounding than the last. They are as follows: Epiphany the First: Fact! Def Leppard is underrated. Pour Some Sugar on Me is a fa...

Random thought 5: War on the Sun

Now, I know I've gone down this road before. Destroying the sun was my New Year's Resolution. For far too long that accursed orb of fire has hovered smugly over our heads, slowly killing us with skin ...

It's internet tag! Weeeee!!

Katie tagged me, and as such, I have the duty, nay, the responsibility to play this silly internet game, because I dare not incure Katie's terrible wrath, because she is crazy enough to do anything a...

The Great Horse Incident of '95

(I don't feel like writing anything new right now, but for those who haven't read it, here's a little piece I wrote when I was 18. I bring it to you now from the archives.)     It oc...

Random thought 4: Founding a religion

I was reviewing my Scientologist doctrine recently, and I came across a little snippet I found interesting. The "religion's" founder, the science fiction writer known as L. Ron Hubbard, once said, "I...

Random thought 3: Jury duty

Straight from the Vann's archives of classic musings:Something funny happened to me recently. Well, actually it wasn't so much funny as it was irritating. Twin Falls county selected me for jury duty. ...

Random thought 2: Jehovah's witnesses, baptisms and velociraptors

For, literally, the better part of a decade, week in, week out, every Saturday morning, my home was visited by Jehovah's Witnesses. They were very nice people to be sure, if not a tad dense. In that ...

The definitive rant on religion

There is a man, who, in a sense, summarized my frustration with organized religion. Perhaps you've heard of him. George Carlin is his name. Perhaps, when I am in my 70s, I can match his wisdom. Until ...

Random thought 1: Vietnam

You know, people are such pessimists when it comes to the Vietnam War. History is depressing enough. Why do we need to remember it like this? I don't think we do. The saying goes, history is written ...
