Carley Baer is not your average chick with a guitar.
She has a confessional writing style that is introspective rather than imperative, but what this songstress has going for her most is her voice. Alternating between soft subtlety and brazen belting, she possesses a range that most singer/songwriters only dream about.
Music was a huge part of her life beginning in the early 80s, as she grew up figuring her way around a 20-key Casio keyboard. Once her musical tendency was made apparent, she was encouraged to play the violin; however, she politely declined the study, and instead set to teaching herself the guitar.
Now, almost a decade later (and with several hundred live performances around the country under her belt), Carley has drawn a definite bead on her natural style. Once consumed by the stereotypical girl-with-guitar-sings-unrequited-love-songs hysteria that dominates most girl rock, she has evolved into a rational, self-examining storyteller. She explores everything from traveling by train due to a devastating fear of flying, to taking bike trips across Wisconsin, to pondering how life might be different if she were a squirrel or jellyfish. She also waltzes with bears in her spare time.
She has self-released a CD (2006's "Still Life") and an EP (2007's "Carley Baer EP"). The EP is available for digital download at www.cdbaby.com.
Carley is currently underway recording Ordinary Stone, her second full-length release. With new stories from sinking ships to Cinderella (and everything in between), this next installment in the indie-folk-jazz-pop songwriter's oeuvre promises to be her best yet.

Winter Wonderland

Here I am, back in the homeland.  Weather.com tells me that on this deceptively sunny day, it's 19 degrees outside.  And apparently it feels like 12.  And there's 7-11 inches of snow on the way, to ad...
