Music, movies, film, walking, spinning my flag, playing the Sims 2 incessantly (gives me a sense of control in a world of chaos), coffee, herbal and natural healing remedies, cooking and foodery, matching colors, paisley, making fun of tv commercials, politics, faghaggery, karaoke, bowling, old people, cheese, buying everything I possibly can from secondhand, vintage, thrift stores, yard sales, or independent artisans, farmers or vendors, creating community and culture and connections between humans, India, the color orange, kittens.
I'd like to meet:
Essentially good people who like to push my insanity buttons but still let me steer enough for me to not want to strangle them. Good customers, do-gooders, goody-goodys, good friends, good tippers, good lovers, good enemies. As long as there's some good in you for me to painstakingly (and often at my own emotional expense) extract. And maybe, someday, someone who will call me out compassionately on all my crap and still love me for my silly anxious but well-meaning foibles. Someone who'll make me actually want to shut up and never want to stop talking at the same time.
Music:
The cliche "eclectic quirky mix" answer. Too much music. Lots of world music, reggae, bhangra, afro-pop, but I love ambient, power pop, indie rock, acoustic, showtunes, old school country/western, folk, techno, dance, pretty much whatever sounds good. I have no restrictions, other than bubblegum corporate-sponsored garbage.Seattle has the best listener-supported radio station in the universe, so I pretty much listen to KEXP wherever I go and it makes me cooler. You should too: www.kexp.orgLatest faves: The Teenagers, The 1990s, Tegan and Sara, Burial X, Band of Horses, the Raveonettes.
Movies:
I love a ton of stuff for a variety of different reasons. I am usually really into documentaries and "nonfiction" (always with a grain of salt) films, artsy/indie/cult classic stuff, foreign dramas, psychological thrillers/stylish horror, comedies, musicals, pretty much anything with well-written dialogue that creatively yet believably achieves its intended (or perhaps unintended) objectives. I'm a sucker for a few directors, but I don't have one favorite.Latest faves: Art School Confidential, Drop Dead Gorgeous (again), Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium.
Television:
Life is really different when you stop watching tv as your default. I keep vague track of a few series like Weeds, Six Feet Under, the Office, Law and Order: SVU, and Flight of the Conchords. I am attempting to give Lost a shot, but we'll see. When I do cheat and get access to cable, my tendencies are toward travel shows like Anthony Bourdain's and a lot of history and discovery channel stuff. And I like HGTV. Oh yeah, and absolutely mindless garbage like Project Runway, Top Model, Flavor of Love, Top Chef, What Not to Wear. Yeah, I know.
Books:
Just finished The Time Traveler's Wife . In the middle of Guns, Germs and Steel as well as Belle Du Jour: Diary of an Unlikely Call Girl.
Heroes:
Jon Stewart, Anthony Bourdain, Janeane Garofalo, my mom, your mom, grandmas and grandpas, Jane Addams, Mahatma Gandhi, Emma Goldman, The Goddess, the Buddha, those who have the courage to be positive and nonviolent and purposeful.
