About Me

Born in Berlin in the 1930s, Karen moved to Dublin when she was four. She studied law at UCD and at King’s Inns, qualifying as a barrister, but she was soon lured to the beguiling universes of theatre, television and film, acting in a variety of productions.Karen was also a member of the comedy singing trio, 'The Nualas', who toured Ireland, Britain, Singapore and Australia, performing in all the major comedy festivals and securing their own radio show on BBC Radio 4.However, it is for her live shows that Karen is best known. This recent solo foray into the world of cabaret has given her an ideal platform to showcase her talents as multilingual chanteuse, comedienne and song-writer. 'Dublin's Drollest Diva’ has built up a cult following in Ireland, Finland and Scotland with five star sellout shows at The Assembly Rooms as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2006.She released her début album Very Very in September 2006.“Comedienne, singer, actress and song-writer; renaissance woman Karen Egan effortlessly sheds her Nualas persona with this superb debut…Here’s a debut that sends shivers down the nape of the neck, hinting that the past might not be another country – just one that ripples with subterranean mystique.” **** THE IRISH TIMES“…the former Nuala comedienne mixes tragicomedy with the grace of a true diva on her debut album…the deference to the greats is understandable but it’s Egan’s own compositions that stand out. ‘Stolen Moments’ shows that, vocally, Egan is no joke.” **** SUNDAY TRIBUNE“Egan’s voice oozes confidence, sassiness and playfulness whether she’s singing in English, French or German.” EIGHT/TEN HOT PRESS“…the album’s real tour-de-force is the original songs, where Egan blends her trademark acerbic wit with the melodies and moods of a cabaret style.” IN DUBLIN“Deeply affecting…it’s like being served a cup tears in fine china…Her live show might leave you rolling in the aisles but this album proves that there’s much, much more to Karen Egan than meets the eye.” ***** GCN Awarded Best Female Act UNFRINGED Festival, Limerick, 2007
