since being in london, i've played disco parties at sketch, the groucho, the rockwell bar, hilton, harlem, cargo, horse meat disco as well as being resident at tts & the dogstar.
i do love disco & i love to disco & love nothing more than to chat with my fave disco icons. Finally catching up with my love sensation loleatta holloway was heaven & tom moulton more MORE, MORE! Tommy Silverman a true pro & of course Nile Rodgers, a fine fine man. Also disco'd with Earl Young in new york city. Caught up with Candi Staton, the emotions, the three degrees, Jocelyn Brown. Russell Patterson & leroy burgess.
I still hope to 1 day trace Rochelle Fleming, or any of the first choice ladies, my fave ever group. Miss Martha (i'll never be over missing Izora), Mr Cheren, yes i still want Lindas number. I love all my queens of the night. I plan to do nyc again soon, i wanna know more of the downtown ballroom party scene. I'd love to speak with Bob Crewe! And i'd love prince, stevie wonders, george michael & even madonnas disco loves. Disco is so vast the more information that can be gathered the better, and just to be a part of that process is a privilege.
If i ever manage to achieve a balance tween discoing & day times, i will write it all up (if i can't get that tv deal that'd make it so much easier), an you'll be the first to know. And if i don't make it home 1 nite its all good to go. For i believe the more people to hear the real deal of disco the better.
Its easy to say why i love disco, it was the time when lyrics weren't about WAITING for the one you love to (maybe) come along but about BEING, to go out and have the time of your life. Disco was the music of celebration, over-coming, whether that be relationships, adversity, prejudice. All are equal under the beams of a mirrorball. I love my discos with whatever gender, colour, sexuality you are or choose to be. Freedom on the disco floor.
