About Me

Once upon a time, I grew up on a dead end street in Churchland. One of my friends had an older brother who turned us on to the Beatles. From there I moved to Chesapeake, attended Western Branch, ran track and was city/district champion. I formed my first of many punk rock bands, the Goodrich Blimps. We performed a punk version of Skynyrd's "Free Bird," changed the title and words to "Free Worm," and a mob of rednecks threatened to beat us to a pulp. From there I attended Old Dominion University, ran track/cross country, drank Old Milwaukee beer, and formed my best punk band called the Thin Lads. Thins Lads played numerous packed shows. I've since been a band member in Plan B, Zombie Luau, Gutter Beat, Otz Chiim, Severance and Gallowglass. Severance opened for a few national acts, including Dave Vanian of the Damned, Jesus Lizard and Gene Loves Jezebel (at The Boathouse), and had a music video aired on national TV.I've traveled many places. My favorite destinations are Scotland, where I've hiked through the Highlands, Newfoundland, The Netherlands, Switzerland (the Alps), Paris, and New York City.I was the founder of Veer Magazine and a former editor of Ninevolt. I currently write for the Virginian-Pilot, Port Folio Weekly, and Lifestyles Magazine.I've won two Virginia Press Association awards.I recently thought about the bands/entertainers I've interviewed. Here's a partial and ever growing list: Flaming Lips, Dead Can Dance, X, Henry Rollins, Alice Cooper, Jack White (White Stripes/Racoonteurs),Flogging Molly, Mud Honey, Jewel, Hinder, A Static Lullaby, GWAR, A Perfect Circle, Megadeth, Ani DiFranco, Aerosmith, Metalica, Ronnie James Dio, Evanescence, Stone Temple Pilots, The Damned, Philip Glass, Tim McGraw, Neko Case,Little Big Town, Dexter Romweber, James Blood Ulmer, Robbin Thompson, Echo & the Bunnymen, Velvet Revolver, KISS, Bauhaus, Ministry, Bad Company, Laurie Anderson, Fall Out Boy, No Doubt,The Strokes, Avril Lavigne, Foreigner, The Isley Brothers, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, Senses Fail, Sarah Brightman, Sarah McLaughlin, Grateful Dead (Bob Weir and Phil Lesh), Jethro Tull, Peter Frampton, Rev.
