This Adelaide based production team have been collaborating with acts all over the country & the world. Renowned performers such as Spikey Tee, Abstract Rude (Abstract Tribe Unique), Resin Dogs, Kataylist, Brothers Stoney, Koolism, The Herd, and Mnemonic Ascent have all benefited from the F&d touch as well as many of the underground Australian acts yet to break the surface.
Separately, the two have forged formidable reputations:
Funkwig is a highly respected bass player who is the musical mastermind behind Social Change (alongside Mc JayBurn). As well playing over the years in many Adelaide bands including Planet Groove & Phat Albert. & at the ARIAS with Candice Alley. Social Change are set to release their new album "Heavy Duty".
deNorthwode aka B.V.A makes up one third of legendary underground crew Mnemonic Ascent (alongside Dj Ransom & Raph Boogie). Mnemonic Ascent have toured extensively across the continent, performing alongside such artists as J5, Company flow, Rodney p and Skits,Hilltop Hoods, Resin dogs and Downsyde to name a very few.
As B.V.A. he is a highly regarded Aussie rapper - considered a veteran of the scene by his 20’s. The enviable reputation he forged with Mnemonic Ascent has been strengthened by his collaborations with other hip-hop acts across the country. Most recently, projects by Muph, Plutonic, Astronomy Class and Jase (on the Beatheadz Connection) have all benefited from BVA's forceful and intelligent rapping.
As deNorthwode, his extensive production credits include Brad Strut, Shin-ki-row, Brothers Stoney and 2dogs. deNorthwode has long been a regular dj around town known for playing a surprisingly diverse selection of party music that always attracts dancing girls.
Together, F&d have seen their tracks released on compilations such as River city Project, and more recently Sub-Urban Files (hydrofunk). F&d also sport a string of official remixes, having reengineered the Resin Dogs single “Gunshot Dubâ€, rocked out the Herd's "Effortless" (featuring UK's Braintax) from the "Trampled" EP. and re-envisioned (in a soon to be released version) "What a Great Night" by local heroes Hilltop Hoods.
F&d’s performance credits span festivals and front bars across Adelaide, and include support for Grand Master Flash, Blackalicious, Jurassic 5, Hermitude, J Live and The Resin Dogs to name a few. Not content to just flex the funk in the studio, F&d translate into a powerful force when performing live. Featuring amazing musicians from around the country, the live line-up includes Gilli Atkinson On Drums, Richard Coates on synth, MC Jim-Blah, Dj Sum 1 of the Battlehogg, Tim Hartwig on guitar as well as Funkwig’s assured bass and deNorthwode/B.V.A’s ambidextrous sampler work and vocals. A feast of other special guests can be unexpectedly joined this highly fluid unit.
‘Worship the Grit’ is the debut album from F&d –(Funkwig and deNorthwode) The Adelaide duo have been hard at it for the last 3 years producing for the likes of Mnemonic Ascent ,Lazy Grey and the Resin Dogs. This release has put a whole new spin on with groundbreaking instrumentals laced with fresh original raps.
On this album F&d have collaborated with the likes of Katalyst, Resin Dogs and Dj Ransom. BVA shares the Mic with some new upcoming rappers including A Love, Jim Blah, Oz Scribble Jam champ DJ Kansel, Mr Monk (Culture Connect); and also more established artist’s Brothers Stoney and L.A underground icon Ab Rude. Gritty beats, live instruments, together with slick honest rapping is the F&d formula, ‘Worship the Grit‘ is the next step stemming a list of highly acclaimed albums from independent label Crookneck.
For radio play, the second single lifted from this release is the the smooth and funky Cool Love (Feat. Jim Blah & B.V.A), which has recently crossed over to video with a stylish, minimalist clip which makes beautiful use of the local landscape.
