About Me
I'm Jay Slater: an editor & writer kind of guy. And a horror, SF and fantasy cult cinema specialist.I've been writing for movie and videogame magazines for over ten years and have contributed towards SFX, Total Film, Hotdog, Film Threat, DVD Review, Bizarre, Neo, The Dark Side, Rue Morgue, Cinema Retro and DVD World. As you may have guessed, I live for cinema and all things round and shiny. I also write for videogame magazines such as Xbox 360, PC Format and Retro Gamer. I'm a dab hand at Galaxians, Astro Wars and love my Intellivision. So from loving film and videogames, I also claim to make the world's best bread and butter pudding. I also love a drink. I also tried to do a world record for doing a board game to raise money for babies: fell flat after 87 hours non-stop. I also attend movie festivals all over the world from Fantasia (Montreal), Fantasporto (Portugal), San Sebastian (Spain), Horrorthon (Dublin), Fantastic Fest (Austin, Texas) and others.I was also the senior commissioning editor at Black Flame where I novelised 2000AD comic strips into books as well as New Line Cinema movies such as The Butterfly Effect, Snakes on a Plane, Final Destination 3, Blade: Trinity and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Eaten Alive! – The Italian Cannibal and Zombie Movie was my first movie reference guide as editor and am currently working ..ting Edge. Which is going to be HUGE!I also think midgets and dwarfs are amusing, but for all the wrong reasons.I make it a habit to see the mainstream "respectable" flicks, art house as well exploitation: one must enjoy all spectrum of the moving image. Tomorrow it will be Children of Men! Tomorrow, Yojimbo! The day after, Rape Squad! Yes!
