Mamuthones is the solo project of Alessio Gastaldello, founder member of Jennifer Gentle (Sub Pop records) and of the record label Sillyboy Entertainment.
He is working on his first solo album, a Zeitgeist esoteric odyssey.
A new album recorded with Fabio Orsi is OUT NOW for the Italian label A Silent Place.

THE FIRST BORN is (quite aptly) the first collaboration between Fabio Orsi (more than a recurring name in the In A Silent Place catalogue) and Mamuthones - better known to friends and family as Alessio Gastaldello and founding member and drummer of Jennifer Gentle, the Italian psych band signed to Sub Pop Records.
After six years with the Jennifers, Alessio split amicably in late 2006 and reinvented himself as Mamuthones, a one-man project delving into primitive percussive jamming and equally primitive one-finger astral keyboard-playing.
After a telematic chance meeting with Fabio Orsi, now the crowned prince of the Italian experimental noise, this album slowly started taking shape via e-mails and file-sharing. Built around a series of percussion-cum-keyboard sonic landscapes performed by Mamuthones and enriched by deep, droney electronic layers later added by Orsi, THE FIRST BORN contains four long tracks of dark, brooding modern psychedelia. From the splashing cymbals and martial beat of the title track to the hypnotic surge of "The infinity within" or the ritualistic feast of "The battle", the whole album feels like an ancient sea ebbing and flowing on some distant alien shore, making for a curiously disjointed listening experience, at the same time peaceful and menacing. The ever-shifting sonic textures evoke both the starchildren krautrockers of old and more recent outer-world explorers but always keep a strong personal identity, firmly rooted in the current weird Italian take on space rock.

Mamuthones è il progetto solista di Alessio Gastaldello, co-fondatore dei beniamini di casa Sub Pop Jennifer Gentle e SillyBoy Entertainement.
Attualmente sta lavorando al suo primo album solista mentre è appena uscito per A Silent Place “The First Born”, album registrato con Fabio Orsi.

Fabio Orsi, dopo una serie di album, in solo e in collaborazione, per le migliori etichette sperimentali (A Silent Place, Last Visibile Dog, Digitalis), è uno dei nomi più rinomati della scena ambient-psichedelica internazionale. Dopo un primo contatto telematico “The Firt Born” ha preso forma via e-mail e file sharing; costruito partendo di volta in volta o da un loop percussivo di Mamuthones o da un drone di Fabio Orsi, “The First Born” è composto da quattro lunghe tracce di oscura psichedelia.
Dai sibili di “A Whisper” al ritmo marziale della title-track, dall’atmosfera rituale di “The Battle” alla corsa ipnotica di “Infinity Within”, l’intero album suona come il fluttuare di un mare antico in una spiaggia aliena e riesce a creare una dissociazione nell’ascolto tra atmosfere rilassate e inquietudini minacciose.
Figlio del kraut-rock cosmico ma calato nel suono dei giorni nostri, “The First Born” è un nuovo capitolo del rock psichedelico italiano d’esportazione.
