Maxwell Tone grew up in Palo Alto, CA (NOT San Fransisco) in the house that his mother had grown up in. Always striving for independence, Max had been singing for as long as he can remember, but had never gotten up the nerve to sing in front of others. One day, a friend heard him singing and demanded that they perform together at their upcoming high school open mic. He sang, his eyes closed and his fears running wild, and when the song was done, he was deafened by applause. This positive reaction compelled Max to continue singing to any audience that would listen, leading him to the inevitable conclusion: he had to start writing his own material.
After a few failed attempts, he began to write lyrics that, lo and behold, actually sounded good. He continued to write, and eventually had a pretty decent repertoire. The time had come to take the next giant leap. It was Max's turn to record his own album.
The Sidewalk Stranger EP was recorded in his best friends bedroom in one take, completely rough and acoustic with a $10 microphone he they had purchased at Fry's. The CD was pretty horrible, only 25 copies were made and only half of them worked, but Max was proud of his accomplishment.
Max continued to write, but also managed to play all of is songs into the ground, almost reaching the point of being tired of them himself. He decided that the only ways he had done well in the past were to take giant leaps forward. The time had come to take another leap. So Max quit his day job, packed up and moved to Portland, where he knew a total of 5 people including his father, who he barely knew. Since then, he has begun production on his new album, Entropy, which will be released on August 25th. This new LP has all new songs, and a style which Max's fans are not accustomed to. His angry lyrics, brazen use of a capo and new outlook are our only clues to his inevitable musical destination.
