MOTEL Gazi Relocating motel entirely dedicated to feature electronica and associated tunes, will open its new venue in gazi, designed by rené habermacher and katja margaritoglou.
Aware of the past and its heritage, the new motel is erected to manifestate the very contemporary moment- where quaked bauhaus clashes with sharp and cool postpunk glitteratti glam. rather than polishing another corporate structure in the landscape of downtown gazi- motel wants to blend into the quarter with the aim to enrich its cultural topography with international flavor but a very distinct athenian perspective. as therefore, in coorperation with divers artists, the new venue will feature several signature pieces on display.
HISTORY Motel opened its doors in September 2004 in the underground surroundings of Psiri to promote a different lifestyle in the Athenian nightlife. Passionate for quality underground music and artistic trends, the concept of Motel is based on the ever-growing need for an unbiased, unpretentious, but truly entertaining club. Since then, Motel aims to produce gigs and has become a stop over venue for leading international djs and live acts.
PHILOSOPHY We aim to view Motel not as a mere club but as a venue that stimulates its guest’s senses by offering an environment where one can let its mind float to the music and mood of the night. Our goal is to promote the upraising artistic culture of the city. Djs, producers, musicians, as well as young designers, directors, photographers, performers, etc… gather to be part of a sophisticated movement and defend quality in every single element of entertainment. Therefore, we diligently protect this culture and encourage the people that share and spread the values of Motel.
DESIGN 2004 - 2007 (Psiri) A Bauhaus establishment was chosen to represent the best our philosophy. It was then entirely refurbished and decorated by Antonis Kalogridis (several times awarded theatrical director and set designer for its work with the National Theatre and other popular productions) using a unique combination of baroque, art deco, and 70’s elements. The venue offered an avant-garde set that softly promoted the values of the club.
