When I was in 5th grade I signed up to play the Alto Saxophone for the first and last time. After I played it for a while, I thought it was the weirdest instrument. Maybe I thought it just looked cool. I don't know. Playing mostly harmony and not so much melody, I think, is what made it seem kinda not the instrument for me. My Dad suggested that since I had been playing on pots and pans for years, maybe I should try the drums. A month later, my pap's told me we were going to hit a local garage sale. Little did I know that there was no sale, just a garage and a used 70's style Red Cheetah rapped double bass drum set. Ya baby! Watching that garage door go up and realizing that the drum set was for me, was one of the best days of my life. I have always learned what I know from having a true passion for using my ear, feel, and my intuition. I spent so many hours of my days figuring out what sounds made what, and what other drummers were doing. I still do, it never gets old.
The first Rock band I joined was called The Green Onion Band. I remember being 16 years old and a little wet behind the ears when I first played the 7th Street Entry in 1990. Ah what a great year for Mariah Carey. The guitar player in that band is still one of my best friends, Josh Bitney. Josh can be heard these days every morning on the 93X Half-Assed morning show. Since those days of literally rehearsing in my parents garage, I have hopped in and out of many different wonderful bands and projects. One of my personal favorites was a band called Firetrucs. In 2004, I was lucky enough to go on the road touring the east coast with a band called Dropping Daylight. Drumming for these guys was a pleasure and one hell of a party. Check them out if you haven't already. After returning from weeks of beer and rock, I jumped head first into Scarlet Haze. This band was a brain child of myself and Kat (lead singer of Scarlet Haze). Kat and I spent alot of time together out west playing of all things country music. After recording and selling over 3000 country albums over the course of about 3 months in the summer of 2004, we thought it was about time we played the type of music that we love to listen to, ROCK MUSIC, and that's when Scarlet Haze was born.
