About Me

Alex LoRe is a performer, composer, educator and saxophonist from Tarpon Springs, Florida. Mr. LoRe has played a significant role in the thriving Tampa/St. Petersburg jazz scene since his early teenage years. His playing has been described by his teachers and peers as captivating and lyrical. Now a member of the Boston jazz scene, Mr. LoRe performs regularly around the city as both a sideman as well as with his own groups. Most recently, he was awarded a full scholarship to attend the Manhattan School of Music for graduate school, starting in the fall of 2009. He is a co-founder and composer of the nine-piece ensemble entitled the “Jazz Conceptions Orchestra,” which has performed at high profile venues such as the Iridium Jazz Club, in New York City.

Mr. LoRe has been featured at venues such as the Jazz at Ravinia Festival, held at the Stean’s Institute for Young Artists in Chicago, the Monterey Jazz Festival in California, the Jacksonville Jazz Festival in Florida, the Clearwater Jazz Festival in Florida, and the Savannah Jazz Festival in Georgia. LoRe has performed and collaborated with artists such as Dave Liebman, George Garzone, Chick Corea, Christian McBride and Vincent Gardner. Along with performing, Mr. LoRe composes regularly. In 2007, his big band arrangement of Bunky Green’s “With All My Love” was debuted by the University of North Florida’s Jazz Ensemble One during its Great American Jazz Series. He has also been the recipient of the Walker’s Rising Stars Scholarship, placing first out of every musician in the Tampa Bay area in 2005 with his rendition of Charlie Parker’s “Star Eyes”. The scholarship competition included statewide television and radio broadcasting. After the competition LoRe was awarded $10,000 to pursue his musical education. His mentors have included Dave Liebman, George Garzone, Frank Carlberg, Jerry Bergonzi, David Baker, James Moody, Jack Wilkins and Bunky Green.
LoRe is a recent graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, earning his Bachelor’s of Music degree in jazz studies.
