ONE OF OUR MANY FOUNTAINS ALHAMBRA & LEJEUNE ROAD MIRACLE MILE AT NIGHT THE BILTMORE HOTEL
The City of Coral Gables was incorporated April 29, 1925. M.P. "Pop" Lehman, a former City of Miami policeman and constable of the Third District, was appointed the first Director of Public Service. By 1938 the Coral Gables Police Department had 18 sworn officers. By 1970, there were 114 sworn officers.A total of seven police officers were killed from 1928-1980. For such a small department, this gave the city the "distinction" of the law enforcement agency in Dade County with the highest rate of officers killed for that 52 year period.A new Coral Gables Police Station was constructed in 1938 at the corner of Aragon Avenue and Salzedo Street. It eventually housed the police department, city jail and court rooms. A state-of-the art police and fire building at Sevilla Avenue and Salzedo Street was built in 1973 and is still in use to this day. As of 2007, there are approximately 183 sworn officers. Emergency response time averages 2.5 minutes. In honor of Officer Stathers, The Coral Gables Fraternal Order of Police lodge was renamed the Fraternal Order of Police, Walter F. Stathers Memorial Lodge, Coral Gables, No. 7. It is located at 225 Malaga Avenue... type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://flash.picturetrail.com/pflicks/acrobatcube_r.sw
