About Me

open the jukeboxAqob is my oldest project as a solo artist, and it has no stylistic boundaries - it will always be about a kid with synthesizers. Mostly venturing into ambient and electronica, Aqob just sings what's on my mind.Releases so far include one track on the groundbreaking "Portugal Rebelde" compilation (1994) alongside many other talented portuguese bands, many of which have made it big, others have passed away, while others, like Aqob, made it here!Since 2004, Aqob has been released through Womblabel, a home-based label for home-based artists, and has put his talent to work, composing, creating, compiling... A more or less complete listing of Aqob tracks can be found at www.womblabel.com , there's a lot to choose from, and I believe they'll print any of the back-catalogue CD-Rs if you're interested.Nevertheless, I would advise you to listen to the 2005 mini-album "Let alone be gone", which is something special altogether. It's a "real" CD (not a CD-R), in a very limited edition, and it was produced entirely in our womblabs studio, back in the day.So, there you go! I hope you enjoy the music of Aqob, but feel free not to. Just be kind to animals and trees.THBy the way, many people have asked what "Aqob" means... Well, I don't know either, but when I first looked up my "citizen" name in the dictionary, it said it came from "aqob", meaning "power of the word". I thought "cool", and took it up, 'cause after all it was my solo project, and it was my name... I haven't got much talent for all this naming stuff anyway, so I thought I could only do worse if I tried any harder. Later I found it could also mean "the dear child", and if you google it, you'll get a lot of bible-related entries and other stuff, to which I have no relation... Aqob just makes music.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Tiago Henriques
Influences: Notions of hyperspace, time-travelling and telepathy, psychadelia, the World of Spirit, Thought and Soul, Mother Earth, the experience of LOVE, JOY and FREEDOM, a glimpse of tomorrow, and the ever-lasting cheerful fight against all systems of oppression, slavery and ignorance. Music has been there since the beginning, music will carry us through.
Sounds Like: Well... It depends on what you pick out to listen! It's mostly instrumental music, though I do try to vocalize sometimes. I particularly like the works of William Orbit, Namlook, Tetsu Inoue, FSOL, Brian Eno, The Orb, Weatherall, but I don't think Aqob sounds much like any of them! It would be quite a feat! I really enjoy a good techno track, and listen to a lot of electronica, from Warp to Plop, Morr to Toytronic, Ghostly to Type, so these may be some pointers! I also enjoy playing my bass guitar and listening to live music, loud guitars, drums and a lot of noise, as long as I can express myself freely while listening [I'll scream if I have to]!

Just a few updates! The studio has moved to a new room, and I had to do some acoustic treatment in order to get a decent sound. It's much better now. Also, a few new synths (DSI Evolver :) for ex.), ...

My story in music (as far as I can remember)

First of all, a warning / apology: I forget a lot of things.I believe I started in music as a kid, learning the piano the old-fashioned way. This was a bit boring, so I took up organ instead (electron...
