About Me

no ego promotions started in late 1997 by putting on a show in Ballymahon for Limerick band Medic over the Christmas period. Caught the promoting bug and took it from there. Organised that year's Paddy's Day Bash which now is firmly established in the Midlands Rock Calender and brought tons and tons of bands to the small town of Ballymahon in Co. Longford that would never normally have played there.

Also spread the wings out over the surrounding towns in the Midlands and also organising full tours of the country for international acts. It was mainly metal, punk, rock, noisy bands in the early days but it was hard to keep the bar owners happy so that whole scene has more or less died away now unfortunately. Highlights included having UK punk bands Goldblade, Lightyear & Dog Toffee play in Paddy's in Ballymahon and also bringing legends Tooth to town in the real early days.

Put a lot of effort into the burgeoning singer / songwriter scene that flourished about 3/4 years ago. Highlights included the Guggenheim Grotto, Goodtime John, Nad Navillus and Robert Blake in Skelly's, Ballymahon.

Tried to up the ante a few years ago bringing Label, Halite, Alphastates, the Blizzards and a real highlight, Ten Speed Racer, to Paddy's and working with MCD to bring Cyclefly to Athlone. The population though was too small to keep the attendances up on a regular basis for these bigger acts and it phased out again. In the meantime bands like Stone Ocean and Kopek make regular visits to Paddy's while Robert Blake makes an annual trip to Ireland for what usually turns out to be 2 weeks of gigs up and down the country.

Recently we looked into using a beautiful theatre in the town to put on gigs and its been amazing so far. We've had several sold out gigs so far including John Spillane, Mark Geary, Andy Irvine, David Kitt, Declan O'Rourke and the toss up for the highlight of the last 8 years between Damien Dempsey, selling out in a day, and most recently Lisa Hannigan doing a secret sold out gig there. From all these wonderful acts gracing the stage at the Bog Lane Theatre came the opportunity to take over the booking of one of the best venues in the Midlands region, The Stables in Mullingar.

So grabbing the opportunity with both hands no ego has been flat out since July '07 building the Stables back up as one of the best venues in the country. So far 3 sold out gigs along with improved gig attendances and overall good vibes have meant that the gigs in and around Ballymahon are suffering slightly. We will endeavour to keep putting on some gigs here but for now the main focus is on the Stables in Mullingar.

Band Website: www.noegopromo.com
Band Members: Mocky - slave to the cause

Diffley - helped out in the early days but is residing down under at the mo

Lemon - helped with photography, putting up bands in his gaff, and joining in on road trips in the past and hopefully in the future

Dave Colohan - recent convert to the no ego cause, helping to run the theatre gigs with no ego under the deserted village banner

Conti - always there for website, technical and generally tricky help as well as physical help at gigs
Influences: First band I worshipped was Iron Maiden, then got into Metallica, Slayer, Machine Head, Sepultura and the whole metal scene from the early 90's. Then Nirvana came along and blew my world apart. Got into Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Stone Temple Pilots, Therapy?, Ash, Joyrider etc. Went to college and got into Tool, Korn, Deftones, Violent Femmes, RHCP, the Driven and became totally obsessed with Kerbdog.

Went to the States and saw every band I had ever wanted to see at Woodstock '99. To this day no band will ever top Rage Against the Machines performance at that gig. Tool, At the Drive In and Will Haven have come close since then but oh my god Rage laid waste to the place that day. Other great acts that weekend were Live, Korn, RHCP, Lit, Social Distortion, Metallica and surprisingly for me DMX.

Nowadays I pretty much listen to anything. Loads of Irish stuff like the Blizzards, Director, Kopek, Stone Ocean, the Immediate etc. Lots of British acts like Magic Numbers, Bloc Party, Forward Russia, Futureheads etc. Wolfmother I saw last week and they rocked big time, currently listening to Damien Rice and the Cake Sale and can't wait for the Tool gig next week. Looking forward also to seeing the Immediate for the first time next week.
Sounds Like: Everything from Rock, Acoustic, Folk, Bluegrass, Trad, Indie, Pop, Metal etc, catered for Adela Meally performing 'Smoke a joint, write a sonnet' in the Shack, Athlone
