no ego promotions started in late 1997 by putting on a show in Ballymahon for Limerick band Medic over the Christmas period. Caught the promoting bug and took it from there. Organised that year's Paddy's Day Bash which now is firmly established in the Midlands Rock Calender and brought tons and tons of bands to the small town of Ballymahon in Co. Longford that would never normally have played there.
Also spread the wings out over the surrounding towns in the Midlands and also organising full tours of the country for international acts. It was mainly metal, punk, rock, noisy bands in the early days but it was hard to keep the bar owners happy so that whole scene has more or less died away now unfortunately. Highlights included having UK punk bands Goldblade, Lightyear & Dog Toffee play in Paddy's in Ballymahon and also bringing legends Tooth to town in the real early days.
Put a lot of effort into the burgeoning singer / songwriter scene that flourished about 3/4 years ago. Highlights included the Guggenheim Grotto, Goodtime John, Nad Navillus and Robert Blake in Skelly's, Ballymahon.
Tried to up the ante a few years ago bringing Label, Halite, Alphastates, the Blizzards and a real highlight, Ten Speed Racer, to Paddy's and working with MCD to bring Cyclefly to Athlone. The population though was too small to keep the attendances up on a regular basis for these bigger acts and it phased out again. In the meantime bands like Stone Ocean and Kopek make regular visits to Paddy's while Robert Blake makes an annual trip to Ireland for what usually turns out to be 2 weeks of gigs up and down the country.
Recently we looked into using a beautiful theatre in the town to put on gigs and its been amazing so far. We've had several sold out gigs so far including John Spillane, Mark Geary, Andy Irvine, David Kitt, Declan O'Rourke and the toss up for the highlight of the last 8 years between Damien Dempsey, selling out in a day, and most recently Lisa Hannigan doing a secret sold out gig there. From all these wonderful acts gracing the stage at the Bog Lane Theatre came the opportunity to take over the booking of one of the best venues in the Midlands region, The Stables in Mullingar.
So grabbing the opportunity with both hands no ego has been flat out since July '07 building the Stables back up as one of the best venues in the country. So far 3 sold out gigs along with improved gig attendances and overall good vibes have meant that the gigs in and around Ballymahon are suffering slightly. We will endeavour to keep putting on some gigs here but for now the main focus is on the Stables in Mullingar.
