Written by Rachel Silver Rocket:
Reynolds were a great band. We first saw them at The Portland Arms in Cambridge in 1998, back in the days when Silver Rocket was but a twinkle in our eyes and we used to take our stereo apart every Thursday night to DJ at The Portland. Chris once drunkenly knocked over a large speaker that was caught about 3" away from pulverising our record deck into smithereens. This only endeared him to us.
I only play records, I'm not good with descriptions, so if you don't know how Reynolds sound(ed) I wholeheartedly suggest you remedy this at once by listening to some songs and go out and buy their records. That said, I believe they may have been fans of bands like Slint at some point.
Reynolds split up when Kev went to Japan to teach English in 2003. Chris has in various incarnations played at Silver Rocket more than anyone else I think, at least the last time I could be bothered to check, which pleases him for some unknown reason. So when Kev came back to England and Chris foolishly suggested they might do a show together we hassled them a lot so they would do it at our club.
I also hassled Chris to set up a Reynolds myspace but he couldn't be bothered and suggested I do it myself. Well, that'll learn him.
A full list of past Reynolds gigs can be found here on Chris's website and a discography is at Gringo's website
What are they doing now? Chris plays in Lords, Felix, Last Of the Real Hardmen, collects guitars under the pretence of selling them and designs very good gig posters under the name The Speeding Train . I also remember Chris doing a guest "DJ" slot at Silver Rocket once, where he was so pissed he repeatedly pressed virtually all the buttons at once and couldn't manage to actually play any of the (undoubtably great) songs he was planning to play, so if you're ever looking for a DJ, don't go there. Phill used to run a recording studio Place Position, and was involved in recording more good records than I can name, he is now a director of a printing company and is also expecting a baby. The last time we saw him was when he won The Weakest Link and looked dead embarrassed the whole way through. Kevin is living back in March and re-adjusting to the UK. Matt Tagney works for the Government for his sins and will probably not thank me for telling everyone that. We see him at gigs. On 12 January 2007's reunion show, long term almost-Reynolds Ian Scanlon of Econoline and Hey Colossus boosted the trio in a 4-piece with added guitar.
Here's a video someone made a long while ago for the song 'Yunga'..
And here's the last few minutes of the show at the Buffalo Bar on 12 Jan 07.
