Guyfi is one of the most exciting new talents to emerge in the rebirth of the Adelaide dance music scene. From his first foray into DJing in 2005, he has quickly joined the ranks of Adelaide’s leading DJs and producers.
Like most DJs, Guyfi got behind the decks because he wanted to play the music he loved. After mucking around on a basic two channel mixer without any equalisers or effects, he soon upgraded to an industry standard Pioneer system, and club gigs weren't far behind. He played his first gig in 2007 at the infamous Cherry Bomb.
Later that year he won a spot in the finals of the Fresh Spin DJ Competition, putting him in front of some of the most important and influential ears in the state. This exposure led to residencies and guest spots at some of Adelaide's hottest nightspots, including HQ, Savvy, Live and clubs in Port Lincoln.
Production and remixing were next on the to do list. Under the alias Guy Moor, one of his first efforts was a remix of Armand van Helden's New York City Beat. After this came many originals, and Guyfi’s distinctive progressive sound began to take shape.
In 2008 Guyfi moved into the national spotlight, securing a coveted spot at Future Music Festival, playing alongside luminaries such as John Digweed, Carl Cox, Laidback Luke and Mark Knight. He also joined some of Australia’s highest profile DJs as a selector for the ARIA dance charts.
2009 is looking even better.
After playing alongside Crazy P*nis, Chuck Love and Derrick Carter at the inaugural Overflow at the Bay, his first EP Gala, under the Guy Moor moniker, is out now on Beatport (through the Generation label). There are more interstate gigs and productions in the pipeline – stay tuned.
