About Me

I play pan!
Here you can listen to 4 different recordings from my various projects that hopefully demonstrates the versatility of the steelpan, an instrument most people associate only with Caribbean music. The clips span from avantgardish soundscapes and jazzduo over Steelband (but with a touch of something else) to classical music.
As a player, composer, and arranger I do my best to display the instrument in as many different constellations as possible, so that people can hear for themselves that the steelpan has the capacity to fit into almost any musical genre.
My bands are:
SUMI (steelpans, guitar, rhodes, and machines). The trios starting point is a musical openness with ample space for experimenting and pursuing of spontaneous ideas. We all manipulate the sounds of our instruments with various effects and live sampling, and the result is a wide and nuanced soundscape.
Check SUMI's website, www.sumimusic.dk or buy our album from our record company Signals .
Sonic Steel is a 6-piece steelband that tries to develop the steelband genre (for which the steelpan is mostly known) in a more musically diverse direction, for instanse by emphasizing more jazzy harmonies and bigband voicing techniques.
Check Sonic Steel's website, www.sonicsteel.dk or download our album at www.maumaumusic.com .
Whatever you do, I hope you enjoy!
