About Me

Originally from Switzerland, Stephan presently lives and works as a freelance composer/arranger between London and Luzern. He is a graduate of the Royal College of Music where he completed his postgraduate studies in composition/composition for screen with Joseph Horovitz and Howard Davidson. In 2006 he was awarded the "Cobbett and Hurlstone Prize" at the RCM. He also studied Jazz arranging and composition at Berklee College of Music in Boston and holds degrees in conducting and music education from Musikhochschule Luzern.
Stephan is a versatile composer. He likes adapting different idioms though he has a very distinctive style of his own. He has written for ensembles of various kinds, from big band to symphony orchestra. He has also written for film and advertisement, rock music productions and has composed music for children.
Over the past few years he has been collaborating with artists and organizations such as the Swiss chart band "Dada (ante portas)", Junior Trinity College of Music, the National Gallery London, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, con moto Publications UK, the Swiss Embassy London, Roche Pharma Basel or the "Swiss Army Concert Band".
Stephan has led a Jazz workshop at Morley College in Waterloo and has been working as co-band leader with the London Bubble Theatre Company. In Switzerland he is leading his own professional 12-piece band "Die Jazzkapelle".
In the 2008/2009 season he held the position of Musical Director for the stage production of "Sugar - some like it hot!" at the Luzerner Theater.
