I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Hi all - I'm currently serving as a Business Development Volunteer in the Peace Corps in Mauritania, West Africa (between Senegal and Morocco). Mauritania is a conservative, Islamic Republic that lies on the frontier of the Sahara Desert and is very hot. I am posted to a regional capital called Aioun, where I teach business to vocational students, organize activities for high-achieving high school-age girls at the Girls Mentoring Center and collaborate with non-governmental organizations on a variety of development projects. I will be here until Sept. of 2008, so please drop me a line! I hope to keep in touch with all my friends from high school, college, DC and elsewhere!I know I'm the last person on the face of the planet to jump on the MySpace bandwagon, but I'm hoping to make up for lost time! Plus, I thought it would be fun to have an online "obsession," or something to occupy myself while in Africa for 2 yrs.If you want to hear about my (mis)adventures in Mauritania, send me your email addy and I'll add you to my list!

My Interests

TRAVELLING, languages, reading, writing, music, cooking, eating, swimming, rock climbing, camel-riding, sand-dune surfing, sleeping, hanging out with friends and occasionally working!

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to reconnect with old friends from my childhood, as well as more recent friends who I've fallen out of touch with, and of course Peace Corps volunteers in Mauritania!

Music:

I love all types of music and am always hearing new music that I like...I enjoy the Senegalese and some Mauritanian music that I hear in Africa, as well as Coldplay, Guster, U2, Sublime, OAR, The Postal Service and many others.

Television:

WEST WING (I'm SO sad it's over), anything on Food Network, Simpsons, ER, some reality shows, and lots of others I can't remember. In Africa, I love catching up by watching BBC World News.

Books:

Everyone should read this great book called "The Culture Code," by some French/American author who's name I can't remember... it's crazy stuff!

Heroes:

These African women I live among are incerdible and so strong, much more so than me! They are totally inspiring in the face of hardship.
