Monica Besser, 31, flaunts a voice of singular timbre. This singer
circulates among Rio’s musical scene since she was 14. She took part in
several musical projects and productions with musicians of repute, and
acquired experience through shows, events, radio, tv, theater, studio musical production and direction, soundtrack and score composition. She has traveled, researched
and toured the four corners of Brazil, earning a vast musical and rhythmic
experience.
In 2007 she spent 6 months touring Europe (Portugal, Spain, Holland,
Belgium), and in 2008 returned for a 3-month season with 16 shows in 12
cities across 5 countries. (Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, Barcelona, Ibiza,
Mallorca, Cadiz, Lyon, Paris, Amsterdam, Den Haag e Brussels).
Singer and composer, Monica carries over 100 original compositions.
Sponsored and supported by Perfeito Fortuna, among the greatest cultural
producers in Brazil, the singer released a CD album with original songs,
in her own style of MPB (Música Popular Brasileira / Popular Brazilian
Music). Produced by Jorge Lima, it presents 11 previously unreleased
tracks composed by the artist. Her show is a mixture of several
re-readings of great names of classic bossa nova, reggae, pop-country-rock, blues, soul and drum'n'bass …
The title track of the album, "VEM PRA FICAR", was used in Brazil as the
theme to the Rede Globo’s TV soap opera "Beleza Pura" in 2008, which was
also aired in Portugal, Mozambique and Angola.
Aside from shows, she is dedicated to the universe of soundtracks, her new
passion. She signed the track of the theatrical production “Veridiana e
Eu†by Cia de Teatro Intimo in Brazil, a staging of "Nosferatu" directed
by Luca de Castro, and the track of the short film "Beijos de Sal†by
Felipe Gamarano Barbosa, produced in NY and winner of several awards in
NY, Europe and Brazil.
She composed, sang and directed the original soundtrack of the
feature-length film “Um Dia de Ontem†starred by Caco Ciocler, by Thiago
Luciano and Beto Schultz. She authored, along with Felipe Prazeres
(concertmaster, or violin leader, of the Petrobras Symphonic Orchestra)
with the collaboration of orchestra conductor Carlos Prazeres. The film
will be released this year in the main film festivals in Brazil, U.S. and
Europe. It was the winner of the Araucaria Award for best soudtrack, on the FESTIVAL DO PARANA DE CINEMA BRASILEIRO LATINO, and Best Filme on BEVERLY HILLS FESTIVAL.
At the moment living between Barcelona and Berlin, performing in shows, working in soundtracks and producing several projects.
