I started playing guitar when I was about 12, listening to my favourite bands of the time: Beatles, Rolling Stones, Cream and so on... In 1970 I started my first band with a group of friends. It was called "Staser Marmax" from the initials of our names: Stefano, Sergio, Mario and Massimo, and started playing in all the small clubs in Rome. In 1974 after various changes in the line-up, "Siddharta" were born with Maurizio Loiodice on bass, Mauro Mori on drums and Stefano De Paolis on guitars, playing anywhere we could. In 1980 we changed our name to "Traintime" and were signed up for a two year contract with producers Cassella & Luberti. In that same year I became a member of S.I.A.E. (the Italian Copyright Protection Society) but all talks of releasing a record were inconclusive. In 1981 I started taking guitar lessons with the great Umberto Fiorentino, as I felt the need to better understand what I was doing. I got deeply involved in the study of harmony and, with great difficulty, learned to read music. In the end it was worth the effort as the music world became more familiar to me. In 1984 my song "Notte di Luna" was chosen among 2500 others, winning the "Song for Sanremo" contest. It was sung by Valentino in the "Newcomer Category". Meanwhile, since 1983 I had started playing jazz in various clubs in Rome and other italian cities: among them was the "Mississippi Jazz Club" and the "Music Inn". It was during this time that, together with drummer Tony Abbruzzese, I formed a quartet called Sky Dive. It changed line-up several times, and included musicians like Alessandro Gwis (piano), Flavio Ferrari (bass), Antonio Maganzini (bass) Tommaso Vitale (piano), Maurizio Manili (trumpet), Marcello Magrini (sax), Carlo Crisi (bass) and others. The 90's saw the start of a new project: "The Big Boss Band" featuring Consuelo Ercoli (piano) Germano Falcione (bass) Massimo Pasquali (vocals and sax) Mauro Mori (drums). The idea was to put together a repertoire of well known and original songs, in a mix of different music styles, including Jazz, Soul and Fusion. The band performed several times in all the major clubs in and around Rome (St. Louis Club, Vecchia Locanda, Circolo degli Artisti, Alpheus etc.) Finally, my present project, called "The Traintime Band" features Gianluca Luzi on Drums, Nicola Nuzzolo on Bass, and Mauro Scialanga ..boards. Our repertoire is made up entirely of original compositions, and all of us participate in the creative process, where we pool together our ideas, our moods and most of all our love of music.
