About Me

I don't know what I would do if I did not have music in my life. I like to say that music is my life. I love everything about it. I love listening to it. I especially enjoy live performance. I am a singer, almost slash song writer. I say almost because I have yet to perform anything that I have actually written, but that will change soon. If I had to categorize myself I would say that I was a jazz singer. To me its a proud thing because performing jazz music, be as an intrumentalist or a vocalist is no easy thing. I don't believe that I have mastered it, but I can confidently say that I am not an amateur at it. You know the saying, "been there...done that". I am very passionate about music. I believe that music has the power to heal and move people. There is something spiritual about people coming together, with their respective instruments and voices, and the end product, this beautiful mess, all by design. I am proud to be a part of it all. My favorite instruments to perform with are the acoustic bass and percussion. Yeah thats right, drum & bass. I plan to record an entire CD with just drum & bass accompanying my voice. Its gonna be a smokin' album, I just know it. I have been singing as long as I can remember, and have been on stages just as long. On a recent trip to New York City, my uncle proved it to me when he pulled a VHS tape of me, I had to have been about 9 or 10 years old, a guitar in my hand doing a cover of Lies by Johnathan Butler. I guess that means that I have always had good taste in music also. I don't have any special awards or accolades to brag about. A couple of years ago I opened for Brian McKnight at the House of Blues. It really wasn't that big of a deal. In fact one of my biggest fears is that when I become famous, VH1 is going to get a hold of that performance and air it. All I can say is that you live and you learn. Thats what life is about, right? The lesson. If jazz was illegal it would be my drug of choice. I'd be like a nonchalant crack-head, not giving a damn, doing what I had to do to get my fix. Sounds sick I am sure, but thats just how passionate I am about it. Especially LATIN JAZZ ooh shit, that really gets me going. I am going to begin recording soon, and I am very excited! I have had many opportunities to record, but some reason or another it just hadn't happened. Since Charleston is home I am lucky enough not to need a recording to gig. But at the same time I meet a lot of people not from the city and they want to tell their friends about me (BLESS THEIR HEARTS) and I don't have anything for them to share. The first CD is most likely going to be some covers that I have creatively rearranged to fit my strange and bizarre personality. There is just so much music out there. One day I have my mind made up, and then I will hear some chords and then I remember some song I grew up listening to, and then all of a sudden I have this bad ass arrangement in my head, and then I am like, " Damn, I have to bring this to the guys"! If I hadn't mentioned before, I am a scatter brain when it comes to music. Nothing is sacred. In fact I could easily jam on the theme from "Sesame Street". Imagine it, a hard latin bop, maybe a few horns, some percussion, a nasty montuno, a funky bass line. Yeah just like that.

Random Thoughts on Lonliness

Sad is to live in solitude.  I totally agree. I wish I knew what it was I was doing for me to be in the current state I am in.  I just don't get it. And I know that I am not the only one.&nb...
