Hello,Let me first thank you for taking the time to read this letter. Now on to the reason.......My name is Julie I am the captain for the 2008 Relay For Life team "Strike Out Cancer" which benefits the American Cancer Society. My husband and I have started a team of our own this year in hopes to become a success with Relay.What is Relay you ask? Well let me tell you. Relay For Life is an event that is held in June at Malabar Middle School. It is a 24 hour event where teams from all over Richland County take turns walking around Mehock Track to show that cancer never rests and neither do the teams that dedicate their time and effort into raising money in hope to one day find a cure. We walk, we have food, contests, dancing and just an all around good time.I first began Relay in 2005 with my mom Carolyn Cyrus, who is the Co-Chair for Richland County, and once I experienced Relay I was addicted. Why do I Relay? I Relay in memory of many family members who have battled and lost their lives to cancer, both my grandmothers, my aunt, and many many other family members. In 2004 I lost "Granny" to Breast Cancer. Granny was my inspiration to begin my mission in raising money for the American Cancer Society and through Relay I found a way to help.
Last year the team I was involved with had many successful fundraising events including a Car Show, All Day Jam at Belchers, bake sales, candy sales, candle sales and a Swiss Steak dinner. Final total for last year's team was just under $5000. County total was approx. $190,000. So this year my husband and I decided to organize another team and hope to raise that total and make it possible for more and more research, medications and cures.I write to you to give you information on Relay in hopes to spread the word about Relay For Life and Cancer Research but I also write to you to ask that you consider making a donation to the 2008 Relay For Life "Strike Out Cancer" team. A monetary donation, a donation of time to help in a fund raiser or even consideration in joining our team. If a corporate donation is possible a sign will be placed at the event in June 2008 in honor of your donation. If an individual donation is what you wish than you will be recognized as a sponsor of our team. But if you wish to remain anonymous just giving the help our team needs to help all those hundreds, thousands possibly even millions of people who will battle, have battled or who have been affected by cancer.We have lots of things planned for the months to come and will be working with some area businesses to plan events and hope to make 2008 a record breaking year for Relay.Thank you for your time and consideration and should you have any questions or want more information please feel free to contact myself or JT at the above address or phone number.
