About Me

From a very early age, Janet knew she wanted to sing. But, being a native Glaswegian with an ingrained Scots modesty that prevented her from "making a spectacle of herself", she learned piano and guitar and joined a few choirs, saving her solo singing voice exclusively for the occasional family get-together. Her schooldays behind her, Janet did what most people do: she found herself a 'sensible job'. It took 10 long years as a bank clerk for her to realise she much preferred the ABC to the 123 and, throwing caution to the wind, she returned to the world of learning. Though at first she enrolled on a joint English Literature and European History course at the University of Strathclyde, something made her change her mind. Call it fate, call it what you will, but she dropped the history course and switched to German Language and Literature - a crucial if totally unconscious turning point in her life. Two university-led work assignments in Germany took Janet to Nuremberg, where she ended up back in banking! But all was not lost; for it was here she fell in love with the man she would marry.
End of story? No way! The next chapter involved a permanent move to Bavaria and the birth of two sons. But amidst the happiness, there also came bouts of acute homesickness. Something had to give. Janet needed to vent the creativity she had stifled all these years. With the unending support of her family and the other three men in her life (band members Ralf, Jerry and Udo), she's now living her creative life to the full: in her readings, her writing and, at long last, in her singing.
As she puts it in one of her monologues: "I'm breathing again… and life? Life can be so good!"
