About Me

HAPPY THINGS:
Avebury, cycling along the seafront in the wind and rain (especially when the wind’s behind me!), talking round a campfire, my cat purring fit to burst at the unexpected thrill of being reunited with my lap (approx every half hour), festivals like Sunrise Celebration, having a hot shower when you come in wet, cold and muddy (like you do…), snorkelling, flowers, a tent in a field in winter, comparing notes on life with people who (for whatever reason) don’t have many teeth left… You guessed it, I’m a hippy… the flower in my hair is pretty much nailed there. SAD THINGS:
* People who say, or enjoy thinking, “I don’t suffer fools gladly”
* Heavy drinking – or any drug such as alcohol that dulls your connection with what’s around you (this is not to say I never drink)
* Soulless luxury hotels, cruise boats etc
* Reluctance to accept/explore new and unexpected information
* Extravagantly big/fast vehicles, and people who speed round built-up areas - THEY COULD RUN OVER A PUSSYCAT!!!!!
* Obsessive, incessant repackaging of self and surroundings, and all the undermining propaganda that makes people want to do it...
...you get the picture... :0) (do you like my design for a D&G T-shirt, in the slideshow?) FAVOURITE QUOTES AT THE MOMENT:
* "We can’t get enough of what we don’t need to make us happy" – Anon (enlighten me if you know!)...
* "The opposite of a correct statement is a false statement. But the opposite of a profound truth may be another profound truth." – Niels Bohr (Nobel Prize, Physics)...
* "The chief difficulty for most people was to realise that they had really heard NEW things; that is, things they had never heard before. They kept translating what they heard into their habitual language. They had ceased to hope and believe that there might be anything new." - Peter Uspensky
* "Mairzi totes and dozy totes and little lamzi tivey, and a kiddley tivey too, wouldn't you?" - Mum and dad singing in their kitchen P MUSIC SAMPLE - This is Jesus Snake by the Ministers of Dub, who mysteriously never got anywhere despite producing plenty of excellent tracks like this one! If you like it, why not let Phil know at http://www.myspace.com/hoogster61. The whole album, Bitter Angel, can be downloaded free from http://www.myspace.com/ministersofdub.

My Interests

Writing, having a laugh, music, dancing, having a laugh, festivals, expanding my horizons, cycling, having a laugh, running, yoga, having a laugh…

I'd like to meet:

Please don't ask to be my veryspecialfriend if you are just collecting girls' heads for your homepage... which seems to be quite a trend on MySpace and strikes me as a bit spooky! and you don't want my mush spoiling it anyway!!!I'd like to hear from anyone with similar interests (or better still, new ones they think I’d appreciate) who is committed to changing things for the better… as best they can… starting with themselves… 'cos the best laughs are always to be had from laughing at ourselves... especially in my case!!!I probably used to think hippies were people with long hair who couldn't be arsed. Blessings to James Allchurch, wherever he may be, for waking me up with a slap round the face with a vegetable ;0)

Music:

Dreadzone, Ministers of Dub, Dubblehead, UNKLE, Gaudi, Kaya Project, Led Zeppelin, Scissor Sisters, Lee Perry, Baka Beyond, Funkadelic, Massive Attack, Jeff Buckley, just about any old Jamaican ska/reggae, Al Green, Underworld, Mad Professor, Curtis Mayfield, Damon Albarn, Small Faces, Justin Timberlake, errrmmmm I could go on...

Movies:

Withnail & I; Sexy Beast; Spinal Tap; The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3; Spirited Away; Amores Perros; Mean Streets

Television:

I don’t have a telly any more as I got fed up with the propaganda/hysteria. But I do pop over to my mate’s for a weekly fix of Ray Mears. In the days when I watched telly, I liked The Simpsons, South Park, The Office, etc. Oh and nature documentaries, and so on. And there was once a brilliant BBC4 documentary called “Christ Comes to Papua New Guinea”, which I’ve looked out for ever since. I’m sure there have been other brilliant things on telly, but errrmmm I haven’t seen them so wouldn’t know.

Books:

Alan Moore – Watchmen; Alice in Wonderland; Jeremy Narby – The Cosmic Serpent; The Orton Diaries; Kahlil Gibran – The Prophet; Julian Cope - The Modern Antiquarian; Lady Chatterly's Lover; Graham Hancock – Supernatural; The Wind in the Willows; Jonathan Franzen – The Corrections; Dale Pendell’s trilogy; Riane Eisler - The Chalice and the Blade; Joseph Heller - Catch 22

Heroes:

Banksy, Ray Mears, David Attenborough, Terence McKenna, Carl Jung, William Blake, Bill Hicks, Ram Dass, Fire and Earth Erowid, Ann and Sasha Shulgin, whoever started Wikipedia… to be continued!

My Blog

A true short story about my gran

"I don't know why I got this haircut", I say, apologetically, as the waiter takes the cups and plates away. I know she would have liked to show me off in here, and I look like a skinhead."Oh, but you ...
