" as HARD as ROCK n' ROLL can get "
This was one
statement used to describe the debut EP from this hard hitting 5 piece from Adelaide, South Australia.
Take a
listen to songs like 'It Always Wins', whose lyrics were written by bass player
Steven Adams. Steve explains " The
song is about everything we hate about ourselves; personality issues, mistakes
made, abuses – and the daily fight against these problems… hence the song title
'It Always Wins'… the sin. "
Although the band's overall sound is best described as hard hitting rock n' roll, further listens to their music opens up the ears to a host of sounds. Drummer Rob Russo says " I've had people write to me saying our music reminds them of bands like AC/DC and Down, from Guns n' Roses to Alice In Chains. One person told me we sounded like an ' ultra heavy version of Live! [laughs] It always surprises me to see that different people hear different sounds and interpret things in their own little way. It's cool. "
This unique sound 63 STONE have created is attributed to their writing style. Singer Anthony R. James explains " When we get into a room together – there are no rules. Whether we write an anthemic, stadium rock riff or a dark, dingy club riff, if we like it, we'll use it. "
Lead guitarist Callum adds " We feed off each other. If Chris plays something on his guitar, I'll just feed off him and play whatever comes naturally, from a screaming lick or solo, to little nuances and subtleties. Most of our songs are written when all 5 of us are in a room together. "
