Billy Oblivion & The Legendary DNA Cowboys

About Me

January 2009 sees this line-up of the Legendaries celebrating their third anniversary with Billy Oblivion's 25th birthday party at the Inn On The Green, Ladbroke Grove. In that 3 years they have played about 10 gigs, all at TIOTG. Songs we have played include (Looking Through) Malcolm Maclaren's Eyes, Rock'n'Roll109, My American Girl, Crocodile Tears, After All, Scum, Sometimes, Goodbye Linda McArtney, Here Comes The Ocean, Real Life, all My Friends and (My Love Is) Black & Cheap which were written by Billy O and covers have included I'll Come Running (To Tie Your Shoe) by Brian Eno, I Walked With A Zombie by Roky Erikson, Blank Generation by Richard Hell, Gloria by Them/Patti Smith, I Don't Want You by The Anteeeks, Drowning Sorrows and Another Schoolday by The Hollywood Brats and Human Being by The New York Dolls. We have been joined on stage by Turk playing harmonica and by Ruth Loraine who has guested on drums for Zombie on several occasions. We would like a keyboard player. Volunteers please contact Billy O. asap. The band playing on the recordings on this page were Billy O - vocals, Ash - bass, Chas - guitar, Carol Lee - keyboards and Mick Bullas - drums and backing vocals. Michael Spit The Pips was the engineer and Billy O produced and arranged. The legendaries are intending to do some recording this year in order to preserve Billy O's posterity before he dies.We are quite happy to play elsewhere if people offer us money.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Drums: George Butler. George was part of Giant Moth with Alex Harvey, Ian Dury & The Kilburns and has drummed for The Deviants, Brian Ferry and Elvis Costello amongst many others. Check out "I Don't Want You" the classic single by George's first band the Anteeeks (1967). George is well known for his even temper.Guitar: Brady. Formerly lead guitarist with the legendary Hollywood Brats, the band who invented punk in 1972! A long time drinking partner and guitarist for Wreckless Eric, Brady is, at one and the same time, Irish and my hero.Bass: John Proctor. John also plays bass for Monkey Seed and The Blues Academy. He has a lovely suit and often smiles wryly during rehearsals.Vocals: Billy Oblivion. I have now been Billy Oblivion since 1976 and I intend to carry on being me for a lot longer. Oh yes!!The Legendary DNA Cowboys are well known for their anti drink & drugs stance.
Influences: As it's Billy who writes the songs and chooses the covers we do it shall be his influences that will be listed:Mott the Hoople, David Bowie, The New York Dolls, Judy Garland, The Stooges, Patti Smith, The Saints, Melanie, Leonard Cohen, Marc Bolan, Beethoven, Glam Rock, Patsy Cline, Deaf School, Punk rock, Roxy Music, Ian Hunter, Steve Harley, Desmond Dekker, Little Richard, Frank Zappa & The Mothers of Invention, Buddy Holly, The Flys, Dolly Parton, Genya Raven, Alice Cooper, Alan Savage, Brian Eno, Adam & The Ants, Dvorak, Deaf School, Mick Farren, Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, The Kursaal Flyers, Wreckless Eric, The Hollywood Brats, Doris Day, Creedence Clearwater Revival, etc, etc, etc .....As you can see, it's the usual suspects for influencing raggedy arsed rock'n'roll. I don't suppose that anyone will be surprised at anything in that list.
Sounds Like: We don't sound like anybody else; we are unique.
Record Label: I won't sign. Never!
