The breakthrough to the universal music market for D-BOYS is finally in motion. With the industry in-need of new faces and a different sound, it would almost seem as if they came out of no where. That no where would be Detroit, Michigan better known as Motown. Both solo artist who form the group D-BOYS are best friends who started out as each others competition and to date still is. “ IT’S EASY TO STAY ON YOUR TOES, WHEN YOU FEEL THE PERSON YOUR RAPPING WITH IS YOUR NO.1 COMPETITION ” –E jay. Immediately after High school both jumped head first into pursuing a career in music. Yung Hoop and E jay are no strangers to good quality music they were fortunate enough to be around some of the city’s best producers and engineers. Dean Hooper uncle of Hoop whom always had a state of the art studio had a lot to do with their discipline of vocal laying, but meeting MC Breed was also a real big part of their career. “ WE DIDN’T JUST RECORD SOME SONGS TOGETHER WE BECAME A FAMILY, HE TAUGHT US A LOT ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF WORDPLAY AND DELIVERY”-Yung Hoop. Breed introduced the hungry MC s to the legendary DJ LEN SWAN who was known for his performances at DJ battles but, Swan was not only one of the hottest DJs but was also one of the city’s best producers and musicians. Along with Kerry Clark on the strings they created a unique sound with strong bass lines and soulful melodies, this was just the start of these young cats and their movement. Soon after recording with Swan a catalog was formed and the recording of good quality music has yet to seize. After meeting I.V Duncan one of Detroit’s best engineers then came the next level of their careers. I.V Duncan CEO of Music Brokers became a real good friend and mentor who had a all-star line-up for his production team that consist of the city’s best producers. I.V who had helped many artist in development provided the two with studio time and production. Having a ear for talent I.V introduced the D-boys to his youngest but very talented producer SLEEPY HOLLOW. After receiving the first track from DJ SLEEPY HOLLOW which could now be titled as I’m a ride both parties knew it was the start of a relationship that would change Detroit music and the effect it left on people forever. –TERRENCE SIMS
